Hello Gordon When the census return reached 'head office' in London, it was the turn of the statisticians to extract the information to put on the final report. They were furnished with complex lists of occupations, so as to minimise the possible mixing up of similar jobs. Occupations on the lists were given numbers, and sub-numbers if necessary. The cow-keeper'job came under list 16, sub-list 3, and that was added so that the final listing could be done. The numbers were not put in by the original transcriber. Regards Peter PS sorry you've had this twice: I put the copy in the subject box!! ___________________________________________________________ALL-NEW Yahoo!
