Hi List Greetings from Australia. I have been researching my family for many years but there is always something that is hard to find. I just saw this list mentioned on another list, and am glad to find others researching in the same area. I'd like to show my interests here. My mother was Agnes Mary Thompson nee Atkinson. Her parents and family came from Preston area: Her father: James Atkinson, b.18.3.1894, Preston; d.1963 Oswaldtwistle Her mother: Agnes Josephine Moxham, b.5.4.1893, Walton-le-dale; died 1969 in Australia. They married at St Marys in Oswaldtwistle, 1919. James' parents were Joseph Aloysius Moxham, grocer (1864-1936) and Mary Walmsley (c.1860-1900). Joseph's parents: Thomas Moxham, pavier/surveyor (b. c.1837) & Sarah Smith (b. c.1837) Thomas' father was another Joseph Moxham, also a pavier. I have been unable to find any of the Moxham family on either the 1851 or the 1881 census. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has any information on this Moxham family. Mary Walmsley's parents were James Walmsley (b. c.1835), skinner, and Ann Baldwin/Boldwin, who married 1856 in Preston. James' father was also James, and Ann's father was Thomas Baldwin/Boldwin, greengrocer, of Walton-le-dale. My father's family came from Oswaldtwistle, and I have been having trouble going back more than 3 generations. Of course the reason is that the family name is Thompson, and there were many Thompsons around there so it is difficult to put the right ones together. My father is Ernest Thompson. His parents were Edward Thompson (1893-1950) and Hannah Catlow (1894-1959). Edward's parents were Peter Thompson (1850-1917) and Mary Ellen Robinson (c.1855-1911). Mary Ellen was from Glossop, Derbyshire, and I can find no information on her apart from her father's name, Thomas, a groom. Does anyone know if there is a Glossop list? My grandmother Hannah's parents were James Catlow (c.1857-1924) and Mary Ann Riley (1857-1915), of Oswaldtwistle. James' birth does not appear to have been registered, but as the family was C of E (was Immanuel church then in operation?) the baptism may be on record. Is anyone able to do a look-up? James' parents were Roger Catlow (c.1830-1882) and Nancy Whewell (c.1835-1903). James had at least 2 sisters, Ellen & Hannah/Anna I would also like to find when Nancy Whewell was born. Her parents were Robert and Ellen Whewell. I believe Peter Thompson was the youngest of 9 children of John Thompson (b.c.1806; d.?) and Hannah Storey (b. c.1807; d,?) living at Moor End at the 1851 census. If Oswaldtwistle is covered by this list (it is in the Preston Records Office area), and if anyone knows more of the Thompson-Catlow families, I'd also appreciate hearing from you. Thank you Linda Holland
