    3. Hi, I am really moved that so many people have replied to me offering suggestions in solving my search problem. Thank you Christine, Lynn, Vern, Carmel. You are all very kind, thank you. I really do not know how long they were in Blackburn, but Catherine was born in Lancashire so I feel she might have been born in Blackburn. Her Father's name was William Sharples. George & Catherine had two children Elizabeth & George. Elizabeth was born in Swansea in Wales in 1852. The sad thing is Elizabeth died at sea and George died in 1854 also Catherine the same year. It is very sad, and it would be nice to find more information. I am going to apply for the death certificate of the baby George?, we have Catherines death certificate, but it says she was in Australia longer than she was. We are trying to find them on the shipping and are not having much luck there either, but I will keep looking. I feel maybe if someone could do a lookup for the 1851 census, they just might be in Blackburn. I hope they would be anyway, if this is possible I would be very grateful. I will try and get someone else to read the writing on the certificate, as I do not have a scanner, and maybe we can some how work out the place of birth. Tiverton keeps coming up from family, but there is lot's of Tiverton's in the UK. Anyway, sorry to go on. Thank you all so much. Best wishes, Pat.

    3. Hi to you all on the list, My name is Pat Hughes, and I am living in Australia. I am looking forward to listening in on the history and names of members of the list. I am searching for the family of George Davies who married Catherine Sharples in Blackburn 1852. I am not quite sure if this is the right list be belong to, so I hope I am ok. I really need help in finding where George was born, that would open the door to find his correct ancestry. The only details we have are, England and on his second marriage certificate we cannot read the place. It looks like Glasternstin, but I cannot find anything on it. So I hope I am not being too cheeky in asking if anyone as any connections. Thanking you so much, My very best wishes. Pat.

    2. Ron Nourse
    3. Hello, list I'd just like to put on record my grateful thanks to Anne, Lynn, Cynthia, Brian and John for all their help over this unremarkable part of my home town. I now have a much clearer picture of this area where so many of my ancestors lived over a period of perhaps eighty years. I never cease to be amazed at how much people on this list and on the Lancslist know about our town and county, and how ready they are to share their knowledge with the rest of us. This was a prime example. Thanks again to one and all. Ron

    3. Hello Anne, Odd about #120, but that's how it goes - we seek, they hide! Yes, I have William ALBERT, thanks. He was my 2xg grandfather's younger brother. Took me a while to prove it with certainty - this one born in Ormskirk (1810) , the other in Colchester (1805)! Thanks again for everything. 3. As can be seen from my signature, I live in Lower Normandy in northern France, within an hour's drive of the CWG Bayeux and other cemeteries, and the US cemetery at Pointe du Hoc. If anyone would like a digital photograph and can provide the relevant details (which cemetery, plot, row and grave number - or inscription panel if only a memorial) I'll take one whenever I am in the right area. Details of individual burials and memorials in Commonwealth War Cemeteries, and cemetery locations, may be found at www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/search aspx. 2. Ron Nourse
    3. Hello, list Would SKS who has the 1851 for Preston please check to see who was living at 120, North Road, Preston, at that time. One of my rellies (Ann ALBERT) was living at that address when she married (Henry SMITH of Walker Street) in January of that year, but I do not otherwise have it as an ALBERT family residence. I suspect she may have been a boarder with perhaps a connected family, hence the question. Thanks Ron

    1. North Road, Preston, in the 1830s/60s
    2. Ron Nourse
    3. Hello, List Three connected questions: Firstly, can anyone point me towards a source giving the house numbers used in North Road Preston from the 1830's to the 1860's? An 1835 map shows that there was then very little housing in the triangle formed by Upper Walker Street, Moor Lane and North Road, but I have found from certificates and censuses that over a period several of my ALBERT ancestors lived in a number of dwellings along North Road (120, 220, 234, 239, 251, 253 and 278). The most intriguing (to me) is number 278, the home at the time of his death of my 3xg grandfather Charles ALBERT, who probably from about 1825 until his death was what was described in Baines as "gentleman" and on his death certificate as "yeoman", of North Road. This suggests he was a farmer, with his own land and workforce. I shall look at tithe records etc at the LRO later on, but any suggestions in the meantime would be welcome. Secondly, is there anywhere I would find information as to the types of housing in that quite short stretch of North Road? One of my ancestors moved around quite a bit in North Road - it would be nice to know why! And finally, I'm a bit confused by references to both Park Lane and North Road. Am I right in thinking that North Road or part of it was once called Park Lane, extending as it did from what used to be Park Road (which has also gone, obliterated by the Ringway). Has North Road always ended, as it does now, at the junction with Moor Lane, the two then becoming Garstang Road? I would be grateful for any pointers (including any references to check out at the LRO). I've walked the length of North Road many times in my younger days, but now most of the old dwellings and their numbers have disappeared. If only I had known! I'd be grateful for any pointers. Regards to all Ron Ex-PGS and Proud Prestonian
