If he served in WW1 he would have been entitled to medals. The medal rolls are at TNA Kew, and they would give his regiment or corps. From that, you could trace his records. If they survived the WW2 bombing, they will be at Kew too. I am seeking information on a Maria Heavey (age 45, unmarried, b. Kilkenny, Ireland) who was listed on the 1901 Census as a scullerymaid at the Park Hotel, Miller Park, Preston. Can anybody recommend any sources of information about this hotel, or life for hotel workers in Preston at this time, and I am wondering what would have happened to her when she became too old to work. Any help gratefully received. fiona

Hello Gordon When the census return reached 'head office' in London, it was the turn of the statisticians to extract the information to put on the final report. They were furnished with complex lists of occupations, so as to minimise the possible mixing up of similar jobs. Occupations on the lists were given numbers, and sub-numbers if necessary. The cow-keeper'job came under list 16, sub-list 3, and that was added so that the final listing could be done. The numbers were not put in by the original transcriber. Regards Peter PS sorry you've had this twice: I put the copy in the subject box!! ___________________________________________________________ALL-NEW Yahoo! Hello Listers I really could use some help or advice. My gr gr grandparents were married in St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Preston on May 11, 1850. I have the marriage certificate. What I need to know is there anyway or any place that I can find out where the religious aspect of information can be found. I need to find out where they were Baptised in Ireland to continue my search since I have no idea where in Ireland they were from. Baptism, communion and confirmation information would have to have been presented prior to their marriage ceremony. Any information or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Pam Bklyn USA
I am trying to find details of James and Elizabeth Pendleton who had a son, James, in about 1852 in Preston. James went to India and married a Johanna Rusell in 1881 in Madras. They had at least 10 children, 1 born in Bellary India the rest in Penicuik Midlothian. I have details about the family once they arrived in Penicuik but do not know much about James' parents and other siblings, if any. Any info would be most welcome. Many thanks Eliz Mrs E A Purves 34 Rullion Road Penicuik Midlothian EH26 9HX 01968 670316 --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Dear Pauline, I wonder if we may have a link? I have a Thomas Walmsley, (No Williams that I know of, but I have no information on siblings), b. 1820 Bilsborrow, Preston, Innkeeper. He was actually innkeeper of The Grapes in Bilsborrow, and his daughter Margaret worked as a barmaid. He married Mary Acres. I can send you the file if you like. Do you have anymore information? Regards, Liz Atherton.
Hello Listers, Can anyone please give me information on William Walmsley, Brewer, Fishergate, Preston (?) - Liverpool (?) B. 1800/1820 - Chipping, (?) Lancs (sorry cannot be more specific) I am unsure of his wife but think that she may have been Elizabeth Burnet/tt. In 1871 one of their sons William born 1840 (my Great Grandfather) is listed as a retired Licenced Victualler - at 41- Lucky Feller !! He had a brother George B. 1849 - a barman . William married Elizabeth Redman (nee Walmsley) They had five children. Thankyou for any help, but it is William - The Brewer that I am after !! Regards, Pauline
