    3. Hello everyone, I am researching WIGGINTON, HOUGHTON, BRETHERTON, BOARDMAN, AINSWORTH. In particular I have George Byron Wigginton b c1845 Wigan and John Cower Wigginton b c1842 Wigan. John Wigginton seems to have retained the name but George seems to have dropped the Wigginton name and become George Byrom from 1870 to 1900. He married as George Byrom and had children including a George Byron and a John Cowper Byrom. George Byron Wigginton m 1908 Florence Houghton in Wigan (Florence is the daughter of Richard Houghton b1867 and Alice Ann Boardman b 1869. John Cowper Byrom m Mary Trickett -- HOWEVER when he arrived in Australia with his wife in abt 1913 he was John Cowper Byron WIGGINTON. I believe he had reverted to his families original name. Is this possible? Could a family have changes their family name in the 1860's? I have George Byron Wigginton daughter living in my home aged 94 and she does not know or understand any of this any more than I do. All of the above occurred in Wigan. Neil in Newcastle Australia.
