This is for Barbara who previously posted for witnesses on a wedding certificate. I believe it was Richard & Elizabeth. I really know nothing about the HORROCKS. My connection is through the SIMM family but there are some similarities. My HORROCKS was Mary who married Peter SIM/SIMM in 1846. Carol tells me the Richard HORROCKS lived on the same street as Mary's father Joseph in the 1841 Wigan census. The names BARLOW & ATHERON also figure into my SIMM family. Peter SIM's mother married an ATHERTON after the death of her husband. One of Peter & Mary's daughters married a BARLOW. My Mary married a Robert HILTON after Peter SIM died. That is about all I know, I keep bringing up the HORROCKS name hoping to learn more about them but havge found out nothing. There are also Horrocks involved not only as witnesses at the marriage of William and Ellen but also sponsors at the baptism of their children. BARLOW Jacobi (James) Barlow born around 1801 and Mary Harrison also born around 1801, were married 19th January 1823 in Wigan. Children are: Gulielmus (William) born 4th Feb 1823 and baptised 5th Feb 1823 at St Mary's RC church, Wigan. He married Ellen Atherton on the 2nd July 1849 in Wigan. William died between 1861 and 1871. Helena (Ellen) born 1st Nov 1824 and baptised 7th Nov 1824 at St Mary's RC church, Wigan. Godparents Josephus Dawber and Joanna Harrison Helena (Ellen) born 14th Mar 1827 and baptised 18th Mar 1827 at St Mary's RC church, Wigan. Godparents Joanna Harrison and Jacobus Duckworth Richardus (Richard) born 17th June 1829 and baptised 21st June 1829 at St Mary's RC church, Wigan. Godparents Jacobus Duckworth and Anna Harrison Alicia (Alice)born 22nd Apr 1833 and baptised 28th Apr 1833 at St Mary's RC church, Wigan. Godparents Thomas Roberts and Margarita Harrison Nancy born circa 1836. Martha born April 1841. On the 1841 census, the family were living at Farrimonds Row Wigan. ATHERTON Thomas Atherton was born around 1805 in Wigan and Elizabeth Dawber also born around 1805, were married on the 15th Dec 1824 in Wigan. Children are: Ellen born 28th February 1825 and baptised 16th May 1825. She married William Barlow on the 2nd July 1849 in Wigan. Jane born 12th April 1830 and baptised 1st November 1830. Thomas born 24th March 1832and baptised 2nd July 1832. David born 1st January 1835 and baptised 15th May 1835. Elizabeth born 8th May 1836 and baptised 19th June 1836. John Frost born 30th September 1840 and baptised 20th October 1840. William born 1842. ATHERTON AND BARLOW William Barlow son of James Barlow and Mary Harrison married Ellen Atherton on the 2nd July 1849 at St John's Chapel Wigan. The witnesses were Richard and Elizabeth Horrocks. Ellen was the daughter of Thomas Atherton and Elizabeth Dawber. She was born in Wigan on the 28th Feb 1825. The family lived in Farrimond's Row, Wigan Children can are: Elizabeth born 8th July 1849. Baptised 15th July 1849. Sponsors were Thomas Roberts and Elizabeth Horrocks. Elizabeth died 16th May 1854. James born 15th June 1851. Baptised 29th June 1851. Sponsors Thomas Brown and Catherine Horrocks. Catherine also lived at Farrimond's Row. Thomas baptised 17th April 1853 Sponsors Thomas and Ann Wilkinson Elizabeth born 28th august 1857. Married James Clarke on the 28th December 1875 in Wigan. Ellen born 1860 .
