Is anyone researching an Edward Oakes christened Mar. 15 1828 in Wigan or any other members of the Oakes family? If so I would like to share family data. Thanks. Jane Magill
Hi Jane, Probably no connection but I do have OAKES in my tree. Thomas & Ann OAKES of Hindley had a son, Joseph, born about 1845 who married Mary STANLEY in 1867. They had an illegitimate daughter, Ann, born 1864 who married Peter THOMAS in 1883; a sons, Thomas, born 1868 and William, born 1869. William married Jane Ellen HARRISON in 1893. William & Jane lived at 38 Platt Lane in 1901 with son, Joseph, age 7; daughter, Ellen, age 5; son, Edward, age 2 and cousin, Mary HARRISON, age 32. I've been told William & Jane had 4 further children, Catherine, Elizabeth, William & John. Quite some time ago I received information that Joseph, the black sheep of the family, disappeared for some time and had two children with Emma Thomas; daughter, Josephine OAKES in Stafford and son, Frederick Charles OAKES in Middlesex. A family friend, John HILTON & wife, Elizabeth adopted Frederick after his mother died and Josephine lived with her grandparents. I have further details on the above but nothing re the parents or siblings of Thomas OAKES of Hindley. Perhaps he had a brother, Edward??? Karen Fraser Nanaimo, BC, Canada
