Son of Joseph CUMBERWORTH and Ann. What can I be told about St Pauls Independent Chapel? Is it still standing and are there pictures around of it? Are there directories back that far that might tell me what Joseph did and give me an idea of when they came to the area? Could someone check now that we have a name of a place? Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Norm Hi Norm That former chapel stands on the corner of Standishgate and Dicconson Terrace, just opposite the Royal Oak pub. It ceased to be a chapel maybe about 1972. Since then, it has been used as Council offices, and also as a restaurant. The substantial stone building was still standing when I was last in Wigan at Christmas, and I'm sure will remain intact for many years to come. I do have some transcriptions for St Pauls - but I can't lay my hands on them. I can't even remember if they are transcriptions of the registers, or transcriptions of the MIs. If you don't make any further progress in the next few weeks, please post again - they will turn up ! Best wishes.
