There will be some 90 stalls to visit, three > invited speakers will give short lectures aimed at familiarising > visitors with the rudiments of family history research and if the legs > begin to ache you can enjoy a leisurely refreshments and a cup of > coffee at the snack bar or a reviving drink at the licensed bar. > > Stalls will include member North West Family History Societies > covering Liverpool and South West Lancashire, Manchester, Lancashire, > Cumbria, Cheshire and North Cheshire, North Meols and the Catholic > societies, several one name societies including the Metcalfe’s and > Rimmers and many more diversified interests. Also represented will be > societies from Wales, Ulster, Ormskirk, Nottingham, the Isle of Man > and many other area societies bringing a wealth of expertise. The > Federation of Family History Societies, the national body to which > most of the societies are affiliated will be in attendance to add > their support to a growing interest. > > The General Register Office will have a large display with staff in > attendance to answer questions regarding births, marriages and death > certificates and all the other aspects of registration procedures > carried out at Smedley Hydro in Southport. Sefton Libraries will be > represented as will some of the County Records Offices. There will be > booksellers, map dealers, old postcard stalls, computer software > programmes and specialists in computer and hand drawn family trees and > expert advisors on genealogy research by internet access. In essence > there is everything for the family historian of whatever skill or > capability. > > The invited speakers are; Tony Foster who will talk on “A Girl Without > a Name”, John Creer on “DNA for Family Historians” and Gordon Read on > “Tracing Seafaring Ancestry” which we are sure will be fascinating and > tempting to the appetite of researchers. > > Admission is £2 with children under 16 free if accompanied by an > adult. All profits are donated to educational facilitators in the > genealogical sphere. > > This is the second event of its kind to be held in Southport after > many years in East Lancashire and the Floral Hall and the North West > Group of Family History Societies are enthusiastic and encouraged by > the keen interest shown nationally by supporters, the Media and many > commercial organisations.
