Hi All, does anyone know why a persons father would be shown as having a different surname on a marriage certificate. I have A William Seddon b.c1850, married on 14 June 1875. On the marriage certificate his father is shown as being John McGee, yet his surname is still Seddon. Does this indicate John McGee was his step father!! I don't have Williams birth certificate yet as, he is shown as being aged 25 on the marriage certificate, giving year of birth as 1850, there are however 4 William Seddon births over this period, 49-50 which could be him!! All advice appreciated.
