Hello Margaret I'm afraid I can be of little help. Even when I tried the old trick of searching for Leddon instead of Seddon (a common Ancestry blooper), nothing obvious turned up in 1841/51. It occurs to me that maybe Seddon was an assumed name - wouldn't be the first man to join the army under a pseudonym. There again he may have been Henry Seddon, but his father John the collier may have been a fictitious adornment for his marriage cert. You didn't need proof and no one so far from home was likely to dob him in. I take it you have considered tracking down his military records? Not my field, but my wife has gained all sorts of fascinating detail about an 18th century militia man ancestor from his marriage and discharge papers etc. Good luck Peter Wood
