Is there anyone who has access to the LPRS publication M3 covering christenings for St. Thomas, Ashton in Makerfield from 1698-1755 and/or M14 covering christenings from 1756 to 1809 that could check for a christening entry? I am looking for the christening of Betty Winstanley which should have taken place approximately 1755. Thanks, Tom ____________________________________________________________________________________ Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your home page. http://www.yahoo.com/r/hs

Eric, Thanks for the information. I have since discovered that these records are actually on the LAN-OPC website. Researching families from this period is quite difficult no matter how you look at it but without access to the records it is nigh unto impossible. I know that my 3x gr grandmother was Sarah Marsh born in Ashton in 1792 and that her parents were William and Betty. I also know that Betty died at the age of 67 in 1822 which would place her birth at about 1754/5 if the given age at death was correct. What I dont know with any certainty is what her maiden name was. I am presently trying to determine if the marriage of William Marsh to Betty Winstanley that took place at Winwick on 9 Nov 1773 may be the one I am looking for. Hello Tom Are you aware of the LAN-OPC site for Ashton-in-Makerfield? If not, go to the home page at <http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Ashton-in-Makerfield/index.html> and follow the Contents link to St Thomas then Baptisms. There is complete coverage from 1698-1812 and 1828-1844. You don't give the child's parents names, but there is a baptism of an Elizabeth Winstanley dr of James born 12 July 1854, which is approximately 1755. Regards Peter Wood
Tom "You don't give the child's parents names, but there is a baptism of an Elizabeth Winstanley dr of James born 12 July 1854, which is approximately 1755." As I hope you gathered, that should have been 1754. Even my lousy timekeeping is better than +/- 100 years! Peter Wood
