Hi Jan, I'm 100% certain if this is your Eliza, but there was an Elizabeth HODGSON baptized at St. Aidan's, Bilinge 24/4/1808 to John & Martha Hodgson. Other children:- James baptized 13/10/1799 Martha baptized 18/7/1802 Buried 24/6/1805 at St. Aidan's Ann baptized 11/3/1804 Martha baptized 26/10/1806 Jane baptized 25/3/1810 Plus a possible, Deborah baptized 26/8/1812. My GGG Grandmother Eliza HODGSON was born in Winstanley, Lancashire in or around 1808 (she died aged 76 in Jun 1884). She married my GGG Grandfather Joseph BONUS, and when I caught up with her on the 1841 census they were living in Oldham and had a child born in Oldham, William, born c1837. My GG Grandmother Mary Ann was born later in 1841. Apart from the 1841 census I have no record of Joseph BONUS at all, where he was born, where or when they married or even when he died. I am assuming Joseph died sometime between 1841 & 1848 because Eliza married William GILLIAN in Oldham in 1849. I have been banging my head on this brick wall for the best part of 2 years and I have just found out that Wigan has a mailing list, so I thought I'd ask if anyone shares my ancestors, or if anyone is able to look up the baptism of Eliza HODGSON in Winstanley or Wigan c1808 and/or the marriage of Eliza HODGSON and Joseph BONUS around 1836. I'm pretty sure they didn't marry in Oldham. Thank you. Hi Eric, I was about to dismiss this because I've never seen Eliza using the name Elizabeth at all, either in the census or on certificates. However I do have the marriage certificate of her second marriage to William GILLIAN and on that her father is named John HODGSON (gardener). So it is possible, and I will keep this information in case it does turn out to be her. Where is Bilinge in relation to Winstanley? Close enough for her to have been baptised there?
