Hello Gene ology, Would you know if the John Finch you're interested in had a son, William, born in 1837 in Wigan? I have a William who has John as a father although there are one or two John's in the time frame and the geographical area and I'd like to be sure of the correct John Finch. 'My' William married an Elizabeth Gaskill (Daughter of William and Helen Hoighton) in June 1859 at Saint George's Church. Look forward to hearing from you. Fr. Hello, I have Nancy Jane Howarth born 6th September 1859 in Wigan daughter of Israel Howarth (b.1833) and Isabella (b 1825). Nancy Jane married Richard Finch in July 1883. I think Israel was in the workhouse. I can't find Isabella in the 1881 census and it may be that either her name is abbreviated or she wasn't in the County? Israel and Isabella also had Mary 1855, William 1857, Elizabeth Anne 1862 and Margaret 1866. Fr. Dear lIST I wonder if you can help. I am researching the Gaskell family from Orrell and in particular the Elizabeth Gaskell who married John Chorlton in Upholland P.C. on 10th March, 1850. Her parents might be Henry Gaskell and Ann who were living at Orrell Post, Orrell in 1851. Henry was a Coachman Thank you in anticipation David Bowers

I am new to the Wigan List and am hoping that someone can help me with my DERBYSHIRE research. I have found 'my' John DERBYSHIRE born 1797 living in North Road, Preston on the 1841 census. His place of birth was a little confusing but from later census I know that he was born in Blackrod. On the IGI there is a John Derbyshire born 6 November 1797 and christened 24 December 1797 at St Katherine, Blackrod with parents Ralph Derbyshire and Nancy Holland - who were married 5 February 1793 in Standish. I am assuming this is 'my' John but how can I be sure ? Derbyshire is a common name in this area. I would love to know if he had any siblings which may help to find more on him. Kind regards, Pauline
