    2. Lorraine Williams
    3. I have Margaret Edge RIGBY born c.1824, Hindley and I am looking for her parents - William and ? It will be a while before I will be able to search parish registers. In 1841, Margaret's age is given as 15, and she is the governess of Newton Workhouse with William RIGBY who is her father (he is stated as governor of Newton workhouse on her marriage certificate to John Knight Cunliffe in 1845). On subsequent censuses before her death in 1869, she is 27 and 37 and gives her birthplace as Hindley on both. I see that RIGBY is a very common name to the area and there seem to be many William RIGBYs. I see that the IGI has a Margaret born to a William and Mary RIGBY in Hindley in 1824. Does anyone have access to the Hindley registers to check whether there are any more Margarets born at this time, and does anyone know the surname of Mary? All suggestions most welcome! 3. Hello Judith, Saw your letter and being an old soldier with an interest in the 1914-18 war - thought I would have a look on the website Commonwealth War Graves Commision. If you go into Google and write in C. W. G. C., you will see a form to fill in. Enter the surname Enion - I found there to be only one by that name:Enion S.E. Rank: Gunner 162241, Date of Death 08/05/1917 Age: unknown. Royal Field Artillery. Nationality: United Kingdom, Grave 11.A.12. Bois-Carre, British Cemetary, Thelus. I then change the first letter to read: Onions and found: James Wisdom Onions, Private, West Yorshire Regiment, Son of Mr & Mrs George Onions, of : 4, Grasmere Rd, Armley, Leeds - Not far from Wortley (Interesting don't you think?). James is buried along with 11,000 more British and Commonwealth Soldiers, at Tyne Cot Cemetary -The Battle for Pashendale. I and my brother were there just year. Would suggest you go into your local churches and have a look at the Great War Dead Memorials also visit the Village War Memorials - lots of names which may have the Enion connection. Good hunting!. 3. Nancye, Have you tried the spelling MacGuire? I have found some of my McGuire family listed under that spelling. They say William Shakespeare's name was spelled 54 different ways over the course of his lifetime in various records! Are any of my McGuire family related to you? I am seeking Philip McGuire (born somewhere 1800-1820 I am guessing), his wife Hannah Mills McGuire (born about 1810-1820), and their children Ellen (born 1852) and Terence (born 1856) McGuire (maybe others I don't know of). Philip and Hannah's children were born in Salford. The family later moved to Wigan. Terence married Catherine Wilson in Wigan, and they had 4 McGuire children: Hannah (born 1878), Ellen (1880), Margaret (1882) and Julia (1884)(maybe others I don't know of as well). Hannah was buried in a pauper's grave at Wigan cemetery. I have not found Philip's nor Terence's deaths/ burial places. Catherine died in 1886 in Wigan. Any connections? 1. [WIGAN] William Seddon b.1850 - Father John McGee???
    2. SkyGene
    3. Hi All, does anyone know why a persons father would be shown as having a different surname on a marriage certificate. I have A William Seddon b.c1850, married on 14 June 1875. On the marriage certificate his father is shown as being John McGee, yet his surname is still Seddon. Does this indicate John McGee was his step father!! I don't have Williams birth certificate yet as, he is shown as being aged 25 on the marriage certificate, giving year of birth as 1850, there are however 4 William Seddon births over this period, 49-50 which could be him!! All advice appreciated. "One of the few artefacts from previous generations to be found in almost every home is the collection of family photographs. Many people use them to illustrate their work, yet few family or local historians ever use them for serious research purposes or exploit their considerable potential as a basis for meaningful investigation. This day will explore various aspects of family photography providing lots of hands-on experience and practical advice. Led by: Dr Andrew Gritt " University of Central Lancashire, Preston PR1 2HE.
