    1. [WIGAN] Mathew BATTERSBY born circa 1811 Wigan
    2. Hi Is anyone researching Mathew BATTERSBY? I ask as Im interested in his wife Mary Horrocks- marriage 1839 Wigan according to lancs BMD. Mary says she was born Wigan circa 1814 in all census returns apart from 1851 when she says Warbury? Yorkshire. My Ann HORROCKS said she was a Yorkshire girl born circa 1822in 1851 census (Lancs 1841) and William who I expect could be her brother said born circa 1821 Yorkshire in 1881 (Wigan the rest of the time). Im hoping to find someone with Mary and Matthews marriage cert in the hope that her dad is John HORROCKS a crofter. (and save myself £7.00 plus a postal delay) My theory is that this Horrocks family had a sojurn to Yorkshire and then returned to the Ince area of Wigan to have more kids and settle and so im looking for any Horrocks who could be siblings etc. living in hope Carol

    3. Hi I used to live in Wigan and my husband's Grandparents had the Royal Oak pub. The Church has now been converted into flats, we went looking at them thinking to buy one to rent out. I remember I was pregnant with my 2nd son so it was July 2005. Look on the Estate agents websites, such as Batt and Brown, Morgan H Lewis, Regan and Hallworth and Rightmove. Sometimes they have the apartments for Sale or rent Found a photo on the following link, it's looking at the side of the church with the street Dicconson Terrace. http://uk.propertyfinder.com/2/pf/property/details.do?action=ATN_GET_PROPERTY_DETAILS&da=homeCoUk&propertyDetailsKey=9901454 The restaurant used to be called Burriges. This photo is on Wigan World http://www.wiganworld.co.uk/familyhistory/showchurch.php?pic=bt71&w=500&h=569&opt=g I'm 'home' in Wigan at Christmas if you'd like an upto date photo? 3. Thank you Paul for the added informaton on St Pauls Chapel. The Cumberworth's in question that were listed in the BMDs turned out to be Cumberbatch when I saw the image of them. I am saving everything just in case they may revert somehow back to being Cumberworths. Thanks to everyone who has helped me with this name. Thanks in advance, Norm Hi Norm That former chapel stands on the corner of Standishgate and Dicconson Terrace, just opposite the Royal Oak pub. It ceased to be a chapel maybe about 1972. Since then, it has been used as Council offices, and also as a restaurant. The substantial stone building was still standing when I was last in Wigan at Christmas, and I'm sure will remain intact for many years to come. I do have some transcriptions for St Pauls - but I can't lay my hands on them. I can't even remember if they are transcriptions of the registers, or transcriptions of the MIs. 1. [WIGAN] Dwyer Family in Wigan
    2. Kathryn Dwyer
    3. Hello all I'm trying to research my family name of Dwyer. On the 1901 census I have my Great Great Grandparents William and Bridget Dwyer living at 5 Hemfield Road in Ince. Previous to this I have them on the 1891 census at the same address. I'm struggling to try and trace them any further back - I know they were both born in Ireland between 1864-1868 but I don't know where - family lore has said it's possibly Rathangan in Kildare but other folks have said they were from Wexford... Is there anyone out there who might know anything about them - I know they had 5 children all born in Wigan - Bridget born in 1886 (she married into the Marshall family), Margaret born in 1887 (she married into the Caffery family in Ince), William born in 1892 (he was my Great Grandfather and married Sarah Jane Gillespie in 1912), Catherine born in 1894 (she married into the Fisher family) and finally Owen born in 1899 (never married and lived with his mother Bridget until she died in 1936). Any help or anyone with any info would be gratefully received. Thank you Kathryn Dwyer --------------------------------- For ideas on reducing your carbon footprint visit Yahoo! For Good this month.

    2. Hi Im still trying to get info on my Ann HORROCKS and who were family was.She married William MCMULLEN in Wigan 1841- her dad was John HORROCKS.1851 census has her birth place as Leeds Yorkshire. 1848 shes in Ince- sons death cert has Mary Horrocks as informant. Using ancestry Im now pretty sure that there was only 1 HORROCKS family in INCE 1851 - everyone on census is related. Is anyone looking at Horrocks in INCE - if so I would love to hear from you either to disprove my theory or hopefully extend my family. Carol

    3. Lynne, Thank you for your help. I found the two listings at http://www.bmdregisters.co.uk/. It is The Official Non-Parochial BMDs Service web site. Yes, the CUMBERWORTH'S came rom Lincolnshire, why, how this family came to Lancashire is not know. I have been all through Ancestry, the IGI's and the census and found nothing. I did this afternoon but credits to see the information on these two. As with my luck I was never able to view the pages and lost my credits so I'm waiting for an answer from them on this. If they are non-comformist I wouldn't think they would be found in the IGI's but wondering way there's a record out there that's not listed anyplace else.
