Hi Janine Could you please give me more details of John & Elizabeth Sharples? Best wishes Norman Sharples. -----Original Message----- From: eng-lan-wigan-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-lan-wigan-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Janine Douglas Sent: 05 May 2008 12:54 To: eng-lan-wigan@rootsweb.com Subject: [WIGAN] [Wigan] Roll call COWBURN GASKELL LOWE ROBINSON SHARPLESTHOMPSON WOODS Hullo everyone, I am searching for the family of John (?) and Elizabeth SHARPLES (She later married Joshua COWBURN) from in and around the Wigan area from the early 1800s. Other families which married into Elizabeth's extensive family include: GASKELL, LOWE, ROBINSON, THOMPSON and WOODS. ROLL CALL. Besides the Wigan surnames in the Subject Line, I am most interested at the moment, in a Harold BURNS, who (I have been told) had been adopted by John HUTCHINSON b. 1854, Carlisle, Cumberland and Sarah Ann GREGG. b. 1855, Penrith, Cumberland. They had 10 children, all born in Penrith. This family moved to Wigan in abt. 1901. I estimate Harold was born around the 1900 mark, but that is just a guess on my part. I have a photo of HAROLD's wedding to a FLORRIE (unknown surname) circa 1920/30; a photo of Harold in the military (MARKED 1st TANK BATT 13-10-19); a photo of Harold with his wife Florrie; a photo of Harold with his wife Florrie with a young female child (perhaps a grandchild). My Wigan-born Mom, Nora MCINTYRE, b. 1915, had labelled all these photos as "Uncle Harold" etc. There are postcards addressed to my MCINTYRE Grandparents and HUTCHINSON Great Grandparents, many of which say "here's a xx for Harold" and so on. Any help or opinions, gratefully accepted. Barb, Ontario, Canada.
I have a John James Green who married Elizabeth Walker. He was the son of Thomas Green and Lydia Rimmer. Sincerely, Juanita **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Get new twists on family favorites at AOL Food. (http://food.aol.com/dinner-tonight?NCID=aolfod00030000000001)

Although these two surnames are probably the most plentiful surnames in Lancashre, I would dearly love to connect with anyone else researching these families.......... William Taylor married Mary Eleanor Jones in Manchester on March 4, 1873. They moved with their young family to Wigan in about 1877. Their children were: Thomas E. Taylor (may have moved to the US) Lily Taylor married William Haynes Elizabeth Taylor married Arthur Stretton Ada Taylor married David Amos Mary E. Taylor Emily Taylor Beatrice Taylor married James Hardman William Taylor Elsie Taylor married George Davies Alfred Taylor Hilda Taylor married David Amos (after her sister Adah died) Cheer! Hi, I only have one Wigan interest... Eliza HODGSON born in Winstanley 1808 and died in Oldham in 1884. Eliza's father was John HODGSON. Eliza's first husband was Joseph BONUS, they married sometime in the 1830s and I can find no birth or marriage in the Oldham area, so it is possible that Joseph BONUS was also born in the Wigan area.
