    1. [LAN-WARR] WOOD Family
    2. Craig & Lisa Hopp
    3. Hi Maureen-- I think we are both stuck at the same time period / generation in our respective WOOD families. Your Elizabeth WOOD is likely the same approximate age as my Henry WOOD (Sr.), who is my gr-gr-gr grandfather. Henry was born abt. 1802, exact birthplace unknown. Per St. Elphin's memorial inscriptions, grave no. E 773 there is recorded: In Memory of Henry Wood who died 23rd Aug 1849 aged 46 years and Ann his wife (no date given) Both Henry and Ann are in the one grave. Henry married Ann SUTTON on 31 Dec. 1835 at Farnsworth Near Prescot, co. Lancashire. The witnesses were James & Elizabeth SUTTON, who I believe are Ann's brother and sister-in-law. Warrington directories from 1838 to 1848 show that Henry WOOD was an earthenware dealer at 10 Market Place, who also ran a day school first in his Market Gate establishment, and later on nearby King Street. This would have been one of the many small private schools which, at this time, competed with the official church run schools. No records survive of these private schools. Henry and Ann WOOD had three children, Henry b. 1837 (my gr-gr grandfather), James b. 1839, and Samuel b. 1842. I have good information regarding the families of Henry (Jr.) and James, but I have not located anything regarding Samuel after his entry as a child on the 1851 Census. I am at a loss as to where I can turn next to look for information regarding Henry's siblings or parents. I have a copy of the Admon document for Henry, and it is signed by his wife Ann WOOD, as well as the men I believe are Ann's brothers, James and Thomas SUTTON. The informant of Henry's death was Mary SUTTON, and I do not know if this Mary is Ann's sister or sister-in-law. If you ever come across information regarding your Elizabeth prior to her marriage, please do pass it on and I'll be sure to do the same.
