I have almost completed a one name study of this rather rare surname found almost exclusively in the area around Ashton in Makerfield for over 500 years. Occasionally, single families moved to Cheshire or another to USA, but they have largely stayed in the one area. I high percentage of female births plus a high rate of infant mortality has restricted the known descendants to a handful of individuals. I have a database of nearly all IGI and quarterly indexes, together with all census records. I would love to hear from anyone who has links to branches of this family.
