Hello Listers I am wondering how accurate the information on certificates is and wonder whether anyone can help. On a marriage certificate, on which the name of the father is given, is it usual for it to state whether he is deceased if he is indeed so at the time of the marriage? I have certificates for other people, which have recorded this and am wondering whether it is the norm. It would be very helpful to know, as it will help check whether I am on the right track with finding my relative. Thanks Heather
Hello Listers Hi Heather, It MAY say deceased against the father of the bride or groom if they are dead, BUT there is no guarantee, If it says he's dead he probably is, but if it says nothing you can't just assume he is alive (I spent a fair while info on one of my ancestors, I'd assumed was alive for just such a reason) Remember the info on the certificate is what is provided to the registrar (and on some occasions people may even lie, such as Inventing a dead father for an illegitimate child) I am wondering how accurate the information on certificates is and wonder whether anyone can help. I think that I have done all the lookups requested, but thought it better to let everyone know that I have a database of my own which has about 90% of Warrington on it. Its nearly finished but not quite. It is no trouble to lookup by firstname, surname, age, or occupation. Feel free to ask for further information. Please be advised that if it is not on the database then you are out of luck. Cheers Sue kinsella
Hi Sue I would also loike to take you up on your kind offer! I am looking for my ggg grandmother Ann Smith b ca 1820 with daughter Margaret b ca 1839. Ann did not marry until 1842. She married James Curry at St Nicholas, Liverpool. According to her marriage certificate her father was George Smith a Flatman. Any info on George would be an added bonus. On later census Ann gave her place of birth as Warrington.
