Good evening Listers, Its hard to stop a train that is still rolling, and thanks to the bright minds and resources that are ours on the list, I have discovered something very interesting. I sent the following question recently to one of our listers: My g.g. grandfather Thomas Birchall had a shop at 91 Church Street in 1871, and then a shop at 72 Church Street in 1881, and then a shop at 80-82 Church Street in 1891, and finally a shop at just 82 Church Street in 1901. Looks like he moved all over the same block for 30 years! I'm curious now whether the 91 Church Street is a building that is still standing. It would be across the street (odd number address), . . . . Now upon some examination, one lister found that a 'Thomas BIRCHALL' a Fishmonger, lived at 91 Church Street in 1901. All right, now here is the really interesting fact. I have been coming across this Fishmonger who carries my name, for about 1 year since I joined the list. In fact, some listers still remember this man when he was more elderly in the 1950s, still selling his fish down Church Street, and apparently had a shop right there. He has been described as an older gentleman by that time with a long white beard. Does anyone else remember this fellow? OK, now I discovered living cousins in Warrington this past year who tell me that we are related to the fishmonger, but they didn't know how. NOW I discover that he is living at my g.g. grandfather's old shop at 91 Church Street in 1901 (my g.g. grandfather had been there 30 years previously in the 1871 census.) NOW, do we have any takers as to how this Thomas Birchall, Fishmonger, ties in with Thomas Birchall, my g.g. grandfather? My gg. grandfather was married to Alice Howard, and they had 7 children (Elizabeth Ann (b.1861), Mary (b.1863), Alice (b. around 1863), Emily (b. 1871), Thomas (born 1865), Joseph (1873), Victoria, (b.1876), and Edward (b.1879).
