    1. [LAN-WARR] FW: [LAN-WARR ] The gallop family that got younger, what do you think?: TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

    3. I've just found this email in my back-files from 13/12/2004, but it has no source address attached to it, so I'm sending it to ENG-LAN-WARRINGTON-L@rootsweb.com in the hope someone will own it. My great grandparents lived at 6 Hopwood St in 1881, Isaac and Mary Smith and family, where my grandfather Isaac was the 9 year old son. I think the two households 4 and 6, probably shared in the fustian cutting trade. My g-grandfather was head of the small enterprise that was apparently conducted in the attics of these houses, running along above two or more of them. I remember the name of Tommy Gallop from my childhood, spoken of by my father, who grew up in General St just round the corner - possibly the same Thomas here, or his son. And Mary Gallop sounds familiar too. If you haven't yet tracked down this generation and their heirs, I can ask my 85 year-old cousin, Hilda Warburton (nee Flannery) who grew up at 16 General St in the 1930s, what she knows about them. There's an M. Gallop as head of household at 10 General St still in 1950-51. Let me know if I can help. Stan Smith I am looking for the descendants of William GALLOP and Elizabeth BOOTH, they had 5 children, Mary Ann b1814, Elizabeth b1819, John b1821, Isaac b.1824 and Hannah b.1827. I think I have found John in the 1881 census, RG11/3796/125/48 living at 4 Hopwood Street. John GALLOP, head,59, fustian cutter,Warrington May A GALLOP,wife,55, fustian cutter,Warrington Charlotte GALLOP,daur, 27,fustian cutter,Warrington Thomas GALLOP,son,13,scholar,Warrington Mary A GALLOP,daur, 8,scholar,Warrington Alice GALLOP,daur,16, cotton weaver,Warrington Also at 4 Hopwood Street were George MORTIMORE,head,widow,38,labourer at wire works,Warrington Elizabeth MORTIMORE,daur,13,fustian cutter,Warrington Mary J MORTIMORE,dau,8,scholar,Warrington Hannah MORTIMORE,dau,6,scholar,Warrington John MORTIMORE,son,11,scholar,Warrington The importance of this will become clear shortly. I then went back to the 1871 and found at RG10/3906/133/13 living at 29 School Brow. John GALLOP,head,49,fustian cutter,Warrington Mary A GALLOP,wife,48,fustian cutter,Warrington Sarah GALLOP,dau,23,fustian cutter,Warrington William GALLOP,son,21,fustian cutter,Warrington Samuel GALLOP,son,19,fustian cutter,Warrington Charlotte GALLOP,dau,18,fustian cutter,Warrington Hannah GALLOP,dau,16,fustian cutter,Warrington John M GALLOP,son,10,scholar,Warrington Eliza GALLOP,dau,6,scholar,Warrington Thomas GALLOP,son,3,scholar.Warrington Only odd things there are his wife only aged 7 years in 10; Charlotte 9 years in 10 and Eliza became Alice, none of which is unusual. However when I looked at the 1891, that's when I found some strange things, form RG12/3080/59/29 still living at 4 Hopwood Street. John GALLOP,head,54,fustian cutter,Warrington Mary A GALLOP,wife,51,fustian cutter,Warrington Charlotte GALLOP,dau,24,fustian cutter,Warrington Thomas G GALLOP,son,22,general labourer,Warrington Mary A GALLOP,dau,20,cotton winder,Warrington Mary Jane MORTIMORE,grand dau,19,cotton winder,Warrington Alice GALLOP,dau,18,cotton winder,Warrington David W DAVIS,relative,24,general labourer,Warrington Alice DAVIS,19,relative,cotton weaver,Warrington If this is the same family, then in ten years, John has got 5 years younger, his wife Mary A has got 4 years younger, Charlotte has got 3 years younger, Thomas 9 years older, daughter Mary 12 years older and daughter Alice 2 years older. I cannot find another John GALLOP of the right age, etc. in 1891, the names fit, the address is the same it is just the ages that are so far out. My question is fairly simple, should I take it that this is the same family and for some reason they lied or were unsure of their ages, or is there so much difference I have to assume a coincidence of names and the address and keep looking?
