    2. Hello Dahlis Perhaps there is a record in Winwick, the Worralls could have been baptised there as it wasn't far from Orford. Regards Celia

    3. Orford was by the 1950s a suburb of warrington, and a place where many of the working-class families from old central Warrington, based on Church St, Howley and School Brow, were decanted, in the slum clearances of the 1940s and 50s. I assume in the 1800s it would be a village in its own right. I am hoping someone may be able to advise me as to where I could search for any records of that time. I cannot find IGI batch nos. for Orford and hardly any mention at all of Orford as a place. 3. Hi there, Yes, everybody was born in Warrington according to the census results. It is a puzzle. They are all clearly related because the same family is living with each different Thomas, and the connection is that Sarah Boond married Samuel Ashworth and HE went to live with HER family in Butter Market prior to 1841. There is no sign of any of the Thomas's being married, no record of any Ashworth deaths let alone births, and no other ashworths that I can find in Warrington. If you have any ideas I would love to hear them. 1. [LAN-WARR] Orford in Warrington
    2. Rick Wylie
    3. I think Orford was a hamlet associated with Poulton with Fearnhead. I would assume that for that period (early 1800s), the parish church would be Warrington's (St Elphins). From memory, the online version of the IGI does not have records for that period in Warrington. I believe that Christ Church, Padgate was built in the 1830s - if your family stayed in that area they may have used that church during the mid-century period. I don't live near Warrington, but if you are hoping for someone to do a look-up on microfilms of parish records,I might be able to help you in late October. I am hoping to be able to visit my parents then - they live close to Warrington. Hope this helps. Regards, Susan Wylie

    3. Hello Barbara On the IGI there is a Thomas STANISTREET,(father Thomas STANISTREET) born 1821 Warrington, Married Isabella JOHNSON, 5 April 1844 at Eccles, Death 18 June 1895. It is a patron submission so needs the usual care. Does this sound like your Thomas? Do you know Thomas's father's name, ie from his marriage cert? Pendleton is roughly 15 Miles from Warrington, Eccles is en route between Pendleton and Warrington, nearer to Pendleton. Kind regards Jean. As an adult he did live in this parish most of his life. I wonder what possible situation might exist to reconcile this. Maybe born in Warrington but christened in Pendleton. This child on this entry was illegitimate. So I don't know what parish his mom lived in and which parish would have been resposible for her. The father is from Manchester possibly.

    3. My grandfather and great grandfather were called Isaac Smith (married 1852) - the latter's father was called James. We've explored the Bank Quay Isaac Smith before and found no link with my lineage, which was based in School Brow and Howley, on the old Church St side of town. Both first names and obviously surnames are of course common enough, and it may be there's no relation. The possibility remains, though, of some family connection - on my paternal grandmother's side I found an Agnes Thomason (her name), also a fustian cutter, who we worked out to be her aunt on her father's side. If you do find any links with the (Isaac) Smiths from the Church St side of Warringotn, I'd be very grateful to hear about them. I think that you're just going to have to search through all the various WOOD possibilities for Henry, James & Samuel and eliminate them one by one. That too would cause some doubts about the data provided for the census. But apart from doing the job for you, I can't see where I can assist further. Peter

The lines of sons Henry Jr. and James have been traced. My other brick wall is the parentage of Henry WOOD Sr. Since the 1841 Census only confirms his birth in Lancashire, I'm looking for suggestions as to where else I could find something with a specific birthplace on it. 1. Re: [LAN-WARR] WOOD, Samuel
    2. Peter Booth
    3. Lisa, You've omitted some vital information - birthplaces and years for his mother and his brothers. You also don't say if you have found any of them in later censuses. I suspect one of the following has happened. a) his mother remarried and he is listed under his father in law's surname in 1861 b) his surname has been mis-transcribed (but you would need this for 1861, 1871, 1881 ,1891 etc) c) they moved elsewhere in England or migrated d) they all died (not much chance) So you should be able to find one of the four in 1861 or subsequent censuses. This could provide some clues. I would also check FreeBMD & LancashireBMD for a re-marriage for his mother between 1849-1861. This would depend on her age. I would also try various searches of 1861 census. If Ann has an unusual birthplace, you could do a search for Ann born 18.. at ........... and leave out her surname. You could also search for Ann occupation widow of that age and birthplace. Also try finding his brothers. I would also do a place search of 10 Market Place in 1861. Another wildcard would be to try "Samuel Sutton Wood" in a Google search. The inverted commas mean the whole phrase has to occur together. I also wonder if you may not be too tight in your search criteria. Sometimes "less is best". Hope some of this brings results. Peter in Sydney
