Hi Sue, I have a Mary Boardman born 1766 in Lancashire. I only have her on the 1841 census so unsure of her exact place of birth. She married William Lamb in 1789 in Wigan Lancashire. The Lambs had a family branch in Burtonwood and Sutton/Warrington area. Could she be the sister of your George Boardman? Regards Sheila
Does anyone have a connection with the Boardmans of Burtonwood? I have George and Mary Boardman with children born 1815-1837 in Warrington. The family were filecutters, however I suspect that they came from Burtonwood in the late 1700's. So? does anyone have any info that will help me? Cheers Sue Kinsella
Hi I'm trying to find a baptism record for St James, Haydock circa 1912. Could somebody advise me the best way to find it. The LDS familysearch site only has film for baptisms up to 1900. Thanks David Researching Houghton, Griffiths, Cook, Bowles, Faulkner, Sherman, Kenny and Atherton from around Wigan/ Warrington/ St Helens area.
Hello, Where could I purchase a copy of this directory please. Many thanks Janet Johnstone
Hi Celia-- Thanks for checking the Warrington directory so thoroughly. This is the father of my Charles Henry WOOD: > James WOOD Printer & Lithographer, Manufacturing Stationer 46 Sankey > Street Maybe Charles Henry and his many siblings were not listed in the 1908 directory if they were in the employ of their father...or in the case of his sisters, maybe they kept house for their father. I guess my search goes on... Thank you for assisting me. Lisa Hopp

Hi Celia I hope you don't mind my asking, but in your directory is there a listing for the name of Norbury at all. They lived in Warrington and just wondered if they are there. Many thanks for your time and help. Celia.....could you see if there is a Ruth Morrison listed married to an Alfred Morrison with a female daughter Hilda. She is my grandmother. Any further information on Ruth and her family until she left for the USA in 1923 would be greatly appreciated. -----Original Message----- From: eng-lan-warrington-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-lan-warrington-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Celiabailey@aol.com Sent: Wednesday, November 08, 2006 7:25 PM To: eng-lan-warrington@rootsweb.com Subject: [LAN-WARR] CHARLES HENRY WOOD Hello Lisa I have a Directory for 1908 Warrington if this is any use to you? From: "Maureen" <d_mreidau@yahoo.com> > Hello Lisa, I have a Gt x3 Grandmother Elizabeth Wood born abt > 1804 married William FAIR c 1831 in Bowdon - died 1853 in Warrington. > I have census info for 1841 and 1851 of Elizabeth living in Warrington. > Have not been able to trace either William FAIR or Elizabeth further back > than their marriage in 1831. > Worth a long shot to see if there could be a link !!!. Regards Maureen > Qld Aus. Maureen-- I, too, am stuck at the exact same time period as yourself regarding my WOOD family. My earliest known WOOD ancestor is Henry WOOD (Sr.). Per St. Elphin's memorial inscriptions, grave no. E 773 there is recorded: In Memory of Henry Wood who died 23rd Aug 1849 aged 46 years and Ann his wife (no date given) Henry WOOD married Ann SUTTON on 31 Dec. 1835 at Farnsworth Near Prescot, and per my copy of the entry of marriage, both were <of this Parish> although St. Helen's is crossed out for Henry. The witnesses were James and Elizabeth Sutton, likely Ann's brother and his wife. I have absolutely no knowledge of Henry's siblings or his parents, and at this point, I'm not sure where else to look that might make mention of anyone. The earliest local newspaper dates from April 1853 so no possibility of finding mention of his death in the papers. Directories from 1838 to 1848 show that Henry WOOD was an earthenware dealer at 10 Market Place, who also ran a day school first in his Market Gate establishment, and later in nearby King Street. This would have been one of the many small private schools which, at this time, competed with the official church run schools which date from 1833. No records survive of these schools. If you or anyone else on the list has a suggestion as to where else I can look for any mention of a family member of Henry WOOD please let me know. I did check the IGI for a possible baptism in St. Helen's, and there was this: HENRY WOODS Male -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: 29 NOV 1800 Christening: 01 FEB 1801 Saint Helens, Lancashire, England -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: JNO. WOODS Family But I have no way to know if this is or isn't "my" Henry. Sorry I can't help you with your Elizabeth WOOD, but if I run across one in my research, I'll be sure to pass along the information. Lisa Hopp Seattle, WA

Hello Lisa I have a Directory for 1908 Warrington if this is any use to you? Regards Celia
Hi Celia, Yes, the 1908 directory may be helpful...do you find any of the following WOOD names in it? Charles Henry James Alfred Louisa Margaret Percy Gregory Florence Maude Frederick George Reginald May help me know whether these individuals stayed in Warrington...which I think is very likely if one did not marry or have children. Thank you so much for the assistance. Let's see where this takes me... Lisa Hopp Seattle, WA > I have a Directory for 1908 Warrington if this is any use to you? > > Regards > Celia
Hello again list, I've written a few times about my interest in the surname WOOD. So, I've decided to narrow down my search to just one individual at a time to see if that leads me to the others about whom I know little to nothing! I found the death of Charles Henry WOOD: Deaths 2Q1934 Wood, Charles H. 67 Warrington Vol. 8c, P. 175 And per the 1901 Census: Charles Wood 34 Lancashire Warrington Lancashire Warrington Printer Does anyone have access to Warrington directories to see if Charles is listed? Also, is it likely there was an obituary or other short article making mention of his death in the Warrington newspapers? I'm trying to find his siblings so I'm looking for any avenues that may make mention of them. Charles was the oldest of seven children born to James WOOD and Margaret GOOSTRY: Charles Henry b. abt. 1866 Warrington James Alfred b. abt. 1868 Warrington Louisa Margaret b. abt. 1870 Warrington Percy Gregory b. abt. 1871 Warrington Florence Maude b. abt. 1874 Warrington Frederick George Reginald b. abt. 1878 Warrington b. abt. 1945 Newton le Willows Arthur E. b. abt. 1880 Warrington d. abt. 1887 Warrington The last living WOOD child from above was Frederick George Reginald. I found in my Grandma's papers two pages from a larger document which itemized the monetary distribution of F.G.R.'s estate (my two pages are the first two in this distribution document, and I can tell there were more pages to follow, but I don't have them). Through a strange twist of fate, my Grandma inherited a small amount of money after this man's death. My Grandma was descended from F.G.R.'s paternal uncle....meaning, F.G.R.'s father James WOOD's brother Henry WOOD. The way it appears, none of F.G.R.'s siblings were living when he died and none of them had heirs so the money went to his next closest of kin, which would be his paternal uncle Henry WOOD (and others on his maternal side, but I don't have those pages). Turns out, uncle Henry WOOD was dead too so the money ended up going to Henry's children who would have been F.G.R.'s first cousins. And then in turn, one of those first cousins, Walter WOOD, was dead too...so the money went to HIS children...which included my Grandma. Clear as mud? Suffice to say, that by 1945, all of those seven children named above were deceased and none had children. Lisa Hopp

Hello list, I have just received a copy of my gr-gr-gr grandmother's death certificate. Ann WOOD, nee SUTTON, died 4 May 1862 at her residence, 10 Market Place, Warrington. Cause of death is apoplexy. She was the widow of Henry WOOD, schoolmaster. Her son, James WOOD, was present at the death and the informant. If anyone has an interest, I would be happy to e-mail a copy...just contact me off-list. I was wondering how likely it is that the local newspaper would have an article regarding Ann WOOD's passing. Is it possible for some kind soul on this list to check the early local newspapers? Lisa Hopp Seattle, WA
