Hello, Are there any connections to the McDowell family in Warrington? John was born circa 1795 in Scotland but was a journeyman traveller living at Church Street, Warrington at least from 1838-1851. He married Mary NEW born circa 1800 Ireland. Children were Margaret born c 1827, Jane, Ellen, John 1838, Sarah and a couple of others. Ellen married Jonathan ACTON and was living at Corn Market in 1854. This is a name I cannot find in Warrington these days. Perhaps someone is better informed than me. Regards Joy Ellis, Melbourne
Hi list members We are new members to this list as we have just started researching my husband's family in the Warrington area. We recently obtained, from the FRC, his grandfather's marriage certificate, William COOPER to Lily LLOYD married 10th April 1909, in order to ascertain the identity of his father....Samuel COOPER, master butcher. We then cross-referenced with the 1901 census and found them as follows: 30, Green Street, Warrington Samuel COOPER, head (40) Butcher, on own account, born Macclesfield Margaret COOPER wife (39) born St. Helens William COOPER son (14) Butchers assistant working at home born Manchester Edith COOPER daug (11) scholar Born Manchester George COOPER son (7) scholar born St. Helens Horace COOPER son (months) born Warrington We are interested to hear from anyone else researching this family, especially the descendants of Edith, George and Horace. regards Jennifer and Alan Cooper in Milton Keynes UK
I would like to welcome you all to the new Warrington list. We already have 44 members in less than a month. I'd like to extend my appreciation to Dot Stutter of the Lancsgen list for her help and guidance, without whom I would never have attempted this. PLEASE DO read the instructions, guidelines and tips below. A. QUICK INSTRUCTIONS: 1) To POST a message to this list use the address: [email protected] 2) To SUBSCRIBE or UNSUBSCRIBE send a message to: [email protected] In the BODY of the message type the word SUBSCRIBE or UNSUBSCRIBE. Do not write subscribe in the subject line, and please do not try to subcribe to the ADMIN address. If you wish to tell someone about a virus then PLEASE don't send to the mailing list, but contact me on [email protected] Once you have sent a message to the list it cannot be deleted, and is stored forever on the archives, so all virus warnings and irrelevant messages clog up the system. Do NOT use a signature file attached to the e-mail message. The software reads your message and tries to answer each command it finds. When it runs across your signature file it gets a bit confused and will send you a message stating something like 'Do not recognize command 'Jones'. Do not recognize command "Smith", etc. It is important when UNSUBSCRIBING that you use the address under which you are subscribed, or you will not be removed from the list. 3) We do NOT have a "NO MAIL" option. If you need to leave the list for a period of time YOU MUST UNSUBSCRIBE and then SUBSCRIBE AGAIN when you are ready to start receiving messages. If your mailbox overflows with "unclaimed mail, the messages we send to you will bounce back to the Administrator's mailbox. This causes no end of bother for the Admin and you will be automatically UNSUBBED because of the bouncing mail. B. NEW SUBSCRIBERS: When you subscribe to the list it would be very much appreciated if you would post a message introducing yourself by letting the rest of us know where your interests lie and which families you are researching. I realize that if this is the first time you have subscribed to a mailing list it is all quite confusing for you but you can't go wrong if you send a message to [email protected] and just list your surnames with accompanying dates and places. Please use UPPER CASE for Surnames. It makes them stand out. C. GUIDELINES: *This list is for the discussion of Genealogy and History, regarding WARRINGTON related families. (Not the surname WARRINGTON, unless of course they come from Warrington). Discussion of migration patterns, immigration, heraldry, historical sketches, Warrington settlements, census data, wills, family Bibles, vital records, web sites, etc. as it relates to Warrington is encouraged. ****** DO NOT POST ***** VIRUS WARNINGS, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, etc. For information on virus hoaxes and urban legends see: http://www.cyndislist.com/internet.htm ******* DO NOT SEND ******* - file attachments (messages with files appended) to the list. They will be rejected. Rootsweb does NOT permit nor pass attachments. If you have a file you would like to share with the members, announce what you have to offer, then send the file only to those who request it, via private email. * RUDE COMMENTS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED on the list! No discussion of flaming in the list. For definitions of flaming and related information see http://www.matisse.net/files/glossary.html#F * DO NOT IMPOSE ANY RULES OR CONDITIONS, expressed or implied elsewhere, upon this list. Rules of other forums may not necessarily apply here. Do not try to regulate this list. If you do not like the way someone formats their queries or responses, or the content of their subject titles, TAKE IT UP WITH THE LIST OWNER, NOT in the list. The list is for Genealogy and History only. * KEEP QUOTING TO A MINIMUM. "Quoting" is repeating text of the message you are replying to. Some quoting is necessary to remind other readers what the thread is about but do try to use good judgement. Quoting the previous writer's signature block or surname list is totally unnecessary. * Surname lists are okay but please try to limit them to say, half a dozen names. Any more than that and many people just won't read them. Try keeping several small lists and rotate them with each succeeding message. D. ****TIPS ***** * PLEASE capitalize ALL surnames (not the whole message) as this makes it much easier for others to see your surnames when reading your message. * SUBJECT LINES - When replying to a message please check the subject line to make sure that it is relevant to the topic in hand. It gets very frustrating when subject lines get repeated over and over from the original message and it has nothing to do with the present topic. * ACKNOWLEDGE replies to your queries. It's only common courtesy. This is a regular occurrence where someone will reply to your message but receive no acknowledgement that you have received it and not even a simple thank you for any information they have furnished you with. * When REPLYING to a message sent to the list decide if this is information that all the list members would like to know about or whether it would only be of interest to the individual to whom you are replying. If you feel that all list members would find it of interest then by all means post your reply to the list. If your reply includes such details that would only be of interest to this one person then please just reply to that person. * POST YOUR QUERY frequently, perhaps once a month, if you have not yet found your ancestor. New people are joining the list all the time and they may have the info you need. E. VISIT THE ROOTSWEB HOME PAGE: www.rootsweb.com for additional information and a wealth of tips. http://users.aol.com/johnf14246/gen_mail.html I hope you'll all find who you're looking for, and have a good time researching. I'm sure you'll find plenty of friends and helpful people on this list. Good luck, Jo Titchard-Lyons List Boss :o) [email protected] The Rootsweb Home page is found at: http://www.rootsweb.com/
I am new to the list and I am studying my family who originated in Warrington. My 5th great grandmother Hannah (Orrett) Hewitt / Hewett died there in July 1751. Her Husband John Hewitt /Hewett died there in Oct. 1750. I am seeking information on Hewitt/Hewett and Orretts from Warrington in the time period of 1740-50. Also wondering if there was any type of epidemic in Warrington in 1750-51. Any information at all from the period in Warrington will be helpful. Thanks Jim Hewitt-USA

Good afternoon listers, Are there any descendants of JAMES HANKINSON out there? Regards, Marjorie
PT & S, Thank you so very much, William BARLOW & Letitia LEIGH were married in 1849. You have several of my relatives listed below. My LEIGHs lived on Naylor Street on the 1851 census. William BARLOWs father was John born in 1799, but its hard to decipher the town on the 1871 census. They lived on Dial St, Eldon St and Church St. Letitia LEIGH was a publican at the Ring O' Bells, but have never found much about that.
