    1. Hardman and or Birch
    2. PT & S Kinsella
    3. Can anyone shed any light on this problem for me. I have a Thomas Hardman / Birch marrying Martha Dagnall in Warrington in 1874 at St Elphins. Prior to this I can find no trace of Thomas Hardman only a Thomas Birch in the 1851 and 1861 census. After he married I can find Thomas Hardman in the 1881, 1891, 1901 census. I am now unable to locate him by either name in 1871 and wonder if anyone else can work wonders and find this elusive fellow for me in the 1871 census. Indications are that he was born 1848ish in or near Warrington. He is certainly living in Warrington in all the census where he has been located. It sounds simple enough but it has me stumped. So! any takers? Cheers Sue Kinsella

    3. HI, It's probably a bit of both ! Some pages may be lost completely Some may be sufficiently damaged so as to make imaging them difficult (although they may well be transcribed eventually) Some may be transcribed, but have just not made it into the database for some reason It's worth reporting any such errors (I've sent you the Ancestry 'how to' link by email) It's also worth trying the free BMD directly http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ and the Lancashire BMD site http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/index.html as not everybody's stuff updates at the same rate (and occasionally you may find the missing record you need) Anthony -----Original Message----- From: ian.plimmer@ntlworld.com [mailto:ian.plimmer@ntlworld.com] Sent: 03 February 2006 12:33 To: ENG-LAN-WARRINGTON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [LAN-WARR ] GRO online records been searching the GRO records on the below site http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx sometimes there are missing pages is this a transcription error or will they have been lost completely? thanks. ----------------------------------------- Email sent from www.ntlworld.com Virus-checked using McAfee(R) Software Visit www.ntlworld.com/security for more information ==== ENG-LAN-WARRINGTON Mailing List ==== ** PLEASE CHANGE YOUR SUBJECT HEADING WHEN E-MAILING THE LIST ** ** PLEASE REMOVE "signatures" from your e-mails to facilitate easier searching of the archives ** ============================== New! 1. RE: [LAN-WARR ] GRO online records
    2. Rachel Roberts
    3. I have noticed that sometimes links lead to the wrong page. For example, looking for RICK in 1860, the same page is linked for March and June quarters. If you notice, at the top of the page it will say, for example: Search > England & Wales, Birth Index: 1837-1983 (Beta) > 1860 > Jan-Feb-Mar > R Type 1 in the page number, and this will give you http://content.ancestry.co.uk/Browse/View.aspx?dbid=8964&path=1860.Jan-Feb-M ar.R.1 If you change the Jan-Feb-Mar to Apr-May-Jun.R.1 (or estimate the page number you want) you will get there or thereabouts. Sometimes this doesn't work, but often it does. Good luck! -----Original Message----- From: ian.plimmer@ntlworld.com [mailto:ian.plimmer@ntlworld.com] Sent: 03 February 2006 12:33 To: ENG-LAN-WARRINGTON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [LAN-WARR ] GRO online records been searching the GRO records on the below site http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx sometimes there are missing pages is this a transcription error or will they have been lost completely? 3. Hi Folks, You may already be aware of this site but I have only just found it http://cetl2.geog.ucl.ac.uk/uclnames/Surnames.aspx It maps surnames in the UK 1881 and 1989 and offers a host of statistical info with reference to the name incidence in both the UK and abroad. In my case it shows two hotspots for the origin of my name. Hope you find it useful. Bob Fearnley

    3. I'm trying to trace the family of William JAMES. One piece of information I have is below, ============================ WALKERS WARRINGTON ALES - TAKEN FROM COMPANY RECORDS "Managerial System" a system which was originated by the late Sir Andrew Barclay Walker, and which, under his fostering care and guidance, ultimately assumed its present proportions. This department is now under the control of Mr. William James, who served a prolonged apprenticeship to the duties before he became entrusted with the responsibilities of his present position, and to him and his able coadjutors devolved the duty of perfecting the work of their predecessors, with results that are apparent to the public and those more immediately concerned. The men under his command are, generally speaking, a body of capable intelligent men-tried, trusted, trustworthy, and respectable-who recognise that in taking part in the management of the numerous Public Houses of their employers they are conducting a wholesome and necessary trade, and have found an occupation derogatory to no man's self respect. ========================== The William JAMES referenced is shown below: 1 William John James b: 1845 Lazonby, CUM, ENG Census 1: 1871 Stockport, Cheshire, ENG Census 2: 1881 11 Paul St, Warrington, LAN, ENG Census 3: 1891 Everton, LAN, ENG Census 4: 1901 West Derby, LAN, ENG .. +Jane Patterson Campbell b: 18 Nov 1851 Craigs, Balmaghie, Kirkcudbright, SCT m: 18 Feb 1869 Girthon, Kirkcudbright, SCT d: Abt. 1880 . 2 Hugh Campbell James b: 1870 Stockport, Cheshire, ENG . 2 Alexander James b: 1872 Stockport, Cheshire, ENG . 2 Albert W. 1. WOOD, James
    2. Craig & Lisa Hopp
    3. Dear Listers: Two things I wanted to note here. First, in case you have not heard the news through another mail list, you can now search the complete BMD images for free at Ancestry: http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx Second, I have benefitted greatly from this new service, and I found the death of my elusive James Wood: Deaths 2Q1911 Wood, James 71 Warrington Vol. 8c, P. 117 Just as a reminder, I am researching the Wood family of Henry and Ann (Sutton) Wood. Henry was born abt. 1802, and Ann was born abt. 1799 (parentage has not be confirmed for either individual). Henry Wood was an earthenware dealer at 10 Market Place, who also ran a day school first in his Market Gate establishment, and later in nearby King Street. Henry and Ann had three children, Henry (b. 1837), James (b. 1839), and Samuel (b. 1842). Henry Jr. was my gr-gr grandfather, and after marrying Mary Theresa Sleddall, he settled in Oldham until his death in 1915. Henry and Mary Theresa had thirteen children yet only four survived until adulthood. James married Margaret Goostry, and they remained in Warrington with their seven children until both passed away...James in 1911 and Margaret in 1903. Samuel is the mystery I have yet to solve. He appears on the 1851 Census, but I cannot locate him at all on the 1861 Census nor his possible death or marriage. Lisa Hopp Seattle, WA
