Dear all Lancs & Mancs, FOOTBALL QUESTION Most of my family are from Heywood. When I asked my father what Premier League team my grandfather would have been for, he said "Manchester City". What I'm wondering is what the football culture is like today in Heywood and Middleton? Are they split between M.U. and City? Since Heywood is now a part of the Rochdale municipality, would they "monkey towners" be more interested in Rochdale (2nd League) matches? Do some favor Bolton? Has football fanatacism waned in Lancashire? Thanks.... They show on the 1851 Census Extract living at Oldham Road in Tonge. William aged 45 years, Margaret aged 45 years - both born Middleton Manchester. Their offspring in 1851 were Mary (20), David (19), John (17), Edmund (15), William (13), Ann (11), Amos (9) and Robert (4). I am also trying to find the baptism record of Edmund (15). I cannot find any trace at St. Leonards, and I know that St. Michael's did not perform their first baptism until late 1840's. I believe that Margaret Hilton may have been a daughter of John Hilton and Sarah Hilton (nee ?) Hopefully, by obtaining marriage details of William and Margaret I can confirm the Hilton link and would like to be able to determine William's parentage.
