Hi Doreen Could you check the 1891 census for me while a the library? I am still looking for Walter and Leah Smith plus any family. Thank Joan Hello Tracy, The best newspaper to look at would be the Manchester Evening News - held on microfilm at Manchester Central Library - but not indexed unfortunately. The Middleton Guardian also reported on some events from North Manchester (including around Heaton Park). This has been indexed and the index is held at Middleton Library on a card system. It is currently being computerised, but the staff are only up to the "C`s" at present. It may be worth checking this source - unless a lister remembers the incident. I can look at the index for you, but it may not be until next Monday, on my next visit. If you haven`t heard anything by then - let me know.
