Very good question ! All my Vizards came originally from Alveston/Thornbury in Gloucestershire. However, there is a link that I've investigated but just can't explain. The 1881 census has my Vizards from Gloucestershire living in North Meols, Lancashire (they moved about a bit on their way here) but with them is a James Vizard born Upwey, Dorset aged 45 born 1836 unmarried & a Blacksmith. My Vizard head of household was also a blacksmith. I can find no records of James' birth and no obviuos connection like uncle ( I have most of the siblings of my Vizards Father I think), I have contacted a fellow who had Vizards (Samuel Vizard) Weymouth, Dorset in 1881 and he has no idea who James is, neither does Howard Vizard who has a database on Vizards. I would be very interested to hear of any other connections to Vizards in this area. I believe James may have stayed in the North Meols area after 1881, but not proven.
