    3. Hi David, Quite a lot of the Rhodes children were baptised at Middleton St Leonards (these have not yet been indexed for the 1830s), so you could look there. I think this is a case though where you must first find the marriages to ascertain the fathers name - there are a couple of James baptised in Middleton around the early 1830s, and this is without even looking at at St Leonards. Both are at St Stephens Chapel, but neither mention being born in Rhodes - in fact one is from Werneth in Cheshire! There will probably be further baps for a James within the same time period at St Leonards. You may do well persevering with the earlier census records (the Middleton/Rhodes ones are surname indexed) and collect the ones with a James Heywood appearing as a son. Not easy, but well worth an extra effort to get the correct families. Best of luck. I know its not so straightforward with the name of Heywood, as there are quite a lot in the area.
