Hi Eleanor First my thanks to everyone for the great response to my enquiry, and especially Eleanor who created the breakthro' I had shelved the 2 IGI christenings on the basis that; Mary is not a family name; Abram does not fit; and there are no examples for 'James son of James'. Wrong. Your mail caused me to look for a marriage on IGI for James Heywood and Mary abt 1830. Abram Heywood married Mary HALLIWELL 24 Aug 1829 Middleton by Oldham. James eldest son (my grandfather) was Henry Helliwell Heywood; so interesting. Next to c1861. In Belfield is Abraham Heywood widowed, a machine printer on calico (James trade) with 6 children & a grandson, including family names John, Ellen and Robert. (James is in London c1881) A search of the 1871 cd for Belfield has the same group plus James aged 20 born Middleton and a Machine Printer (app). Excellent except the wife is Sarah not Mary???? Back to IGI Abraham Heywood married Sarah HOWARD 28 Jul 1833 Middleton after James birth and before next son in c1851 John abt 1837. So it is possible that Mary died and James named his son after her. The IGI does not have a death/burial for her. IGI also gives christening Abram Heywood 14 Jul 1811 Middleton, parents Thomas & Margaret. & Sarah Howarth christened 26 Nov 1809 Middleton, parents Thomas & Maria. Finally, in c1881 Abraham is alive and aged 72 in Castleton with 4 unmarried children aged 32 to 39 and a 1 year old gdaug. That has to be my best result ever and again my thanks to you all.
