Hi Janet Dane house is on William street/ Middleton Veiw, next to Tonge Hall, off Oldham road. The House is still there but was converted into flats in the sixties. It was originally built by the Schofield family who owned Dane mills on Grimshaw lane. One of the Schofield Children went on to be Mayor of Middleton, John Joseph Schofield. Hope this is of help to you. We will be happy to try and help with any other queries you have about Dane house. Thanks Tracey and Tony I'll get onto Multimap and have a look! My husband's great-aunt lived there with her family for some time pre-WW2 I think. Her husband was Tom Coates, who was also a mayor of Middleton (about 1941 I believe). I'll print out your reply and add it to the file of info I'm accumulating - all snippets like this make the family history much more interesting for others to read. Tracy, i have just read your response to Janet`s posting re "Dane House with interest. My great great grandmother, Betty VERITY is recorded as having died at "Danes Mill", Tonge, in 1875. I take it, "Danes Mill" would have some connection with "Dane House", and the location would possibly be the same.? Hi Norman Dane House was owned by the Schofield family of Oldham. They were part owners of the Dane mills on Dane street, now Grimshaw lane. The house itself is built on a hill overlooking the mills.
