    2. Hello Anne in Aussie. Melbourne Are you aware that there are two towns with the name Middleton in Lancashire? One about four miles from the town of Lancaster in the north and the other about six miles from Manchester in the south. If however it is the Middleton near Manchester you are considering, there is an Elizabeth Wilson chr at Manchester Cathedral 30th May 1841, dau of John Wilson and Mary. The reason for suggesting this particular christening is that Manchester Cathedral was considerably cheaper than the surrounding areas. Many locals therefore, would rather travel to Manchester than pay the higher rates of their local churches/chapels etc. Hope this is of some use to you Tony in Manchester, England ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ X-Message: #1 Date: Sat, 16 Jul 2005 16:38:31 +1000 From: "Anne or Gordon Major" <gamajor@ozemail.com.au> To: ENG-LAN-MIDDLETON-L@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <025d01c589d0$fbdaf1c0$0301010a@majorhome> Subject: WILSON Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi Everyone, My name is Anne and I'm here in Australia. I wonder does anyone have access to the PRs for Middleston please? I am after the birth of an Elizabeth WILSON, daughter of John and Mary WILSON about 1840/41. Any help appreciated, Anne - Melbourne

    3. Hi Tony, No, I didn't realise there were two Middletons, but it would have been the one near Manchester that I am after. All the names in this particular branch of my husband's tree come from in and around Manchester. I have also come across the entry you mention, and the reason why I asked about Middleton is that that is where she puts as her birthplace on the censuses (1861/71), and also on the birth certificates of her children born in Queensland (yes, Aussie certificates have wonderful information on them!). Therefore I thought I should check and see if she had been baptised there as well as born there, before claiming the Manchester Cathedral entry. I don't know her mother's maiden name (birth place Manchester on 1861) or where her parents were married. Her father gives his birthplace as Bolton le Moors in 1861 and Garstang in 1871. As there is about 26 miles between the two places, I have no idea which is right! And yes, I do have the right John Wilson on both censuses! On her last child's birth certificate dated 20th May 1882 she gives her age as 41, which would mean she would have had to have been born in 1840. I do realise that stated ages weren't always accurate, so the 1841 remains a possibility. The only thing that makes me a bit doubtful is the fact that her brother and sisters are not listed on family search. Anyway, a mystery that I shall keep trying to sort out. Thanks for the help, much appreciated, Anne - Melbourne ----- Original Message ----- From: <AndersonLostock7@aol.com> To: <ENG-LAN-MIDDLETON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 17, 2005 5:50 PM Subject: [ENG-LAN-MIDDLETON-L] Re: ENG-LAN-MIDDLETON-D Digest V05 #118 > > > > > Hello Anne in Aussie.
