I have been searching both site for a couple of years, but because I did not have any first names it was very frustrating and once I did have the names it was still difficult, as I do not really know the Geographic's of England, so just keep searching Salford. I think the first one 1892 sounds more likely as my grandfather was born around 1895. Is this town near Salford ? I also made a mistake (typo error) when listing the death of George Taylor, should have been 1975, not 1925. I am in the process of searching Census now. There is freeBMD at http://www.freebmd.org.uk and also 1837 online - haven`t got this site marked down but you`ll be able to find it on a search. The latter one is a paying site though. Have you got the census details with the birthplaces on? You will also need the marriage details of Thomas and Henrietta before you can find the birth of Henrietta.This will give her maiden name. Hi Sylvia, Here is the baptism entry: Long Street Wesleyan Methodist Church. 22 May 1871. Ernest s/o Joan and Ann Powel Colwell of Middleton. Born 7 April 1871. The mothers maiden name could be Powel, but you would need to purchase the birth cert for confirmation of this. This is the only baptism for this family in Middleton. The registers for Long Street for this time period are not at the church. They have been deposited in archives at Manchester Central Library. I have indexed all entries (baps and marriages) including other non-conformist churches in Middleton.
