Rather unusual name..wondering if it registers with anyone here Marriott Wilde (also spelled Mariot, Merriott) believed born c.1816 in Oldham, Lancashire. Married Sarah Ann Jackson, Dec 1837. Sarah Ann appears to already have 2 children at the time of the marriage (John Jackson and Thomas Jackson) Marriott and Sarah Ann have 3 further children - Ann (c1838), Marriott (c.1840) and Sarah (c.1847). The whole family is listed in the 1851 census, however I can only find a record of John Jackson after that date - it is possible that the others emigrated? Any information would be gratefully received Julian

I would like to hear from anyone who knew Ernie Roney, a Middleton based school teacher who was well known around the Blackley area both for his work as a school teacher and for his ballroom dancing lessons. He was my grand father. He died 22 years ago when I was very young and I would just like to know more about his life.
Dear All, Hoping you all have a very merry Christmas and happy New Year. Best wishes, Babs.

Wonderful David. I sent my father a surprise a few years back for Christmas also. He hadn't even known the name of his Grandfather! Hi, A couple of weeks ago I overcame one of the brick walls in my family history. Alice Wilson appears on the 1841 census in Harpurhey with two boys and no husband. Not much to go on. She doesn't appear on any later census so I checked whether she had died or re-married. She had re-married in the 1840s and the certificate gave her maiden name, Worsley, and her father's name, Peter. (I posted a question about him at the time). She was then easy to find under her new married name on the later censuses, which showed her birthplace, Blackley. I already knew of the Worsley family of Blackley. Robert Worsley had been the landlord of the Pleasant Inn, Crab Village, Blackley in the late 1800s and his descendants were still there in 1901. Checks on a few genealogy websites suggest that Robert Worsley's grandfather was a Peter Worsley. I've found two Peter Worsleys, with families, in Blackley in the early 1800s, but I haven't yet established if Alice's and Robert's lines are from the same Peter. Even if they're not, there's probably a connection a few generations further back. So, why should I want to link my Worsleys with those at the Pleasant Inn? 'My' Peter Worsley's gt-gt-gt-grandson, my dad, married the daughter of the landlord of the Pleasant Inn in 1950 and I was born there. It could be that both my mum's and dad's families have, in different centuries, been tenants of the Pleasant Inn. Finding that possibility was one of those magic moments that make all the time and effort of family history research worth while and was great Christmas present. Enjoy your Christmas, Dom O'Malley. P.S. Shhh, don't tell my Mum and Dad. They still live near the Pleasant and this information is going to be a Christmas Day surprise.
Hi there, I am looking for anything on the SUMMERSGILL family in Oldham and the WRIGHT family from Rochedale. I know that my G Grandfather Wilfred SUMMERSGILL married Lillian WRIGHT. Wilfred and Lillian had two sons Wilfred jnr (my grandfather) and Stanley. Stanley I know died in his 20's and I have found him in Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Wilfred we think had a brother called Thomas and Lillian had several siblings including Florence, Lola and Herbert. My mother believes that Herbert died during one of the wars and that the WRIGHT family may have moved to Rochdale from Bedfordshire. Any help or advice on how to proceed but be greatly appreciated. Hello Doreen Thanks for that, I'll check it out. No, I don't have James and Mary in 1851, the two sons James and John moved to London by 1841 where they each married (James in 1836, John in 1842) and it's there that I'm coming from, so the only Rochdale information I have are the baptisms apart from one of John's sons, John William (b Holborn 1846), who moved back to Rochdale from London some time after 1861, married Alice Earnshaw there in 1868 and stayed. Hi Colin, There is the following marriage at St Leonards Middleton. Though I realise it may not be the correct one, it could be worth checking it. 20 March 1810. James WATMOUGH and Mary JACKSON. Do you have this couple on the 51 census to see where Mary was born? Doreen.

I assume that as the baptisms were at St Chads the marriage was not in a chapel. Is this a sensible assumption? Can anyone check the banns register for St Chads for me please (the LDS do not seem to have filmed it) or suggest which parishes should be checked next for the marriage? Does anyone else have an interest in this family? Hi Neil, Have you got the following baptism? St Leonards Middleton. 14 Dec 1740. Sarah d/o Robt and Sarah Shepley of Middleton. There are a few John Kenyons around 1740. If Janet hasn`t got these on her list - can forward. 17 May 1812. St Leonards. Baptism. Joseph s/o William and Nanny Kenyon. Weaver of Middleton. Doreen.
Hi Neil I think we may have been in touch before about the Middleton KENYONs, but can't at the moment put my finger on details! My husband's great-great-grandmother was Elizabeth KENYON, born about 1822 in Middleton. Her father was John KENYON, a weaver, who must have been born around 1800, but I have as yet not been able to prove who his parents were. (It's on the 'To Do' list!) I suppose it is possible that he is 'your' John born 1804, but I would have to scour the PRs and eliminate any others before I claimed the link. I have accumulated a list of KENYONs from the local PRs, if I haven't already sent you a copy - and if you'd like me to - then please just ask. It would be a Word document, sent as an attachment. I can see your Joseph's christening on the list in 1812, son of William and Nanny.
