William Kent and Margaret Hilton married in 1825 at Prestwich St Mary, therefore it would be safe to assume he was born around or before 1805. I will see if we have a baptism for him or any Kent's. My William is on the 1851 census in Middleton as a Clogger so he couldn't be in two places at the same time. Pity about this as I had this film out last week at the LDS. Hello Ann, The filmed register for St Leonards is not very good 1807-12. Am presently going through the original book, which is very fragile, trying to fill in on the many blanks. There are 2 Williams without surnames as yet - one 27 March 1808 (doesn`t look like Kent) and the other 6 Aug 1812. Also: 10 June 1810. William s/o James and Jane Kent. Weaver of Middleton. Doreen.

Hi Neil, The marriage cert will probably be available from the registrars in Manchester. This will give the parents. Go to www.manchester.co.uk then into the link for the registrars. Not sure if you can order online, but definitely by telephone. Hope this is of help. Margaret. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Neil Kenyon" <nek@bluemarble.net> To: <ENG-LAN-MIDDLETON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 01, 2006 1:57 PM Subject: [ENG-LAN-MIDDLETON-L] Samuel KENYON and Sarah Ann SMITH > Hi, > > Trying to find the marriage record for Samuel KENYON to Sarah Ann SMITH. > Married March 1857 Manchester. Tracing FOXALL roots. 1881 Middleton Census shows Thomas Foxall, 51, beerseller from Dublin, Ireland at Odd Fellows Arms, 13 Thorpe Street. Wife Sophia 50, daughters Sophia 20, Edna 14 and grandson Joseph 2. I have Sophia and Edna's families but don't know the parents of grandson Joseph. Any help would be appreciated. Angie
Hello List I am looking James WHITTAKER born 1832 in Chadderton. I received an 1851 census reference to a James WHITTAKER at cow that may be related but his son's age then (23 in 1851) did not match that of my gr gr grandfather (who should have been about 19 since he appears in the 1861 census in Failsworth and listed as born in Chadderton). Any suggestions welcomed, perhaps someone has access to a parish record. D Pierce, Ontario, Canada
Hi I have a Thomas Hilton bc1808 Middleton who married Sally Haigh of Chadderton, daughter of John and Betty. They had 2 daughters Esther 1846 and Eliza 1849 and in 1851 were at Church St. Middleton where Thomas was a pawn broker. It looks like Thomas and Sally died as their daughters are living with Thomas's spinster sister Mary bc 1806 in 1861 She has a pawn brokers business at Kent St. Middleton. I don't have the marriage for Thomas and Sally or deaths but if anyone has any connection to them, or any of the family, I would love to hear. Regards Dorothy

Hello Mary, John and Betty didn`t marry in Middleton. Could have been at St Marys Prestwich. I don`t think it would have been at Bury as these should be on the IGI. If not at Prestwich, Oldham could be another possibility. (Bury isn`t too far away from Middleton). The daughter Mary would probably have been buried at St Leonards Middleton. My indexes are lacking the 1850s and 60s at the moment. There is a baptism at New Jerusalem Chapel, Wood Street, Middleton that is of interest: 4 Nov 1838, Thomas s/o John and Betty Pilling of Middleton. Born 10 Aug 1838. Could be further details in the register. I didn`t record all details for this church. No other baptisms for the family at this church - have indexed baps, marriages and burials. Again, could be St Leonards (which I haven`t yet done). 1841 census. HO107/544/12. ED 11. 47/14. Water Street. Middleton. John Pilling. 39. Printer. Betty Pilling. ?age. William Pilling. 11. Edward Pilling. 5. Thomas Pilling. ?age. ?? Age 4 mths. All born in county. Perhaps someone has a clearer copy of this census. It is very faded and difficult to read on my CDs. Doreen.
