Hi Babs, I will send the FIELDING burials off-list. Doreen.
Hi Doreen, Sorry to jump in on Eric's info, but we're both trying to connect our FIELDING ancestors. Could you possibly let me have the burials as well please? I did have some info that you sent me a couple of years ago, but have mislaid it! Thanks very much in advance. Hi Doreen, Reading the excellent work you're doing on the St Leonard's burials made me wonder whether you'd come across burials for William Pearson or Sarah Pearson between 1814 and 1841. Does the following ring any bells? HANNAH TAYLOR born 1810 born Middleton 1861 shows widow mother BETTY TAYLOR born 1791 or 1787 born Bury HANNAH TAYLOR married a person called Lancaster had I have found one child JOHN BORN 1847 ANY INFO WOULD BE MOST WELCOME Regards JOHN
Hello Alva, In 1946 burials could have taken place at Boarshaw Cemetery; Old Cemetery at St Leonards; St Michaels, Tonge; and St Gabriels. I am indexing the Middleton burials, but haven`t got to 1946. There is an index at Middleton Library for the old cemetery and Boarshaw cemetery. Have you tried looking at the Middleton Guardian online index? There may be a mention of the death/or an obit. The index is part of the Rochdale Library site. I could take a look at Boarshaw Cem records for you, but would need a rough death date. Doreen.
Hi Doreen......do you have early St. Leonard's burials?? I'm looking for Samuel and Elizabeth/Betty OGDEN. Probably before 1840. He was a weaver of Blackley. Thanks.....mary lou
Thanks Doreen: I will check it out later tonight. I have not received Blanche's death certificate yet but only know that she died in the December Qtr. 1946. Great weather outside today and the garden is waiting. Calling for rain tomorrow. Will check things out tonight. Thanks again, Alva in B.C. ----- Original Message ----- From: "doreen EL-AHWANY" <doreen@elahwany.freeserve.co.uk> To: <ENG-LAN-MIDDLETON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 30, 2006 2:23 PM Subject: Re: [ENG-LAN-MIDDLETON-L] Middleton Cemeteries > Hello Alva, > > In 1946 burials could have taken place at Boarshaw Cemetery; Old Cemetery > at St Leonards; St Michaels, Tonge; and St Gabriels. > > I am indexing the Middleton burials, but haven`t got to 1946. > There is an index at Middleton Library for the old cemetery and Boarshaw > cemetery. > Have you tried looking at the Middleton Guardian online index? Hello there: I am just new to this site being directed to you by the Lancsgen list. I am wondering if there is a data base for the cemeteries of Middleton. My great aunt, Blanche Williams passed away in Middleton in 1946. I never knew her or my grandfather , her brother. Through my research I have just discovered her in the past few days. Her maiden name was Butterfield and in 1922 she married James Williams later in her life at 49 years of age. At the time of her death she was only 73. Would anyone be able to suggest how I could go about finding more information on her. The death certificate has been ordered but yet you arrive. I am getting anxious now that I have finally found her. Any help much appreciated. Regards, Alva in B.C.

Dear Lancashire List, Having just accessed the 1841 census online i now have another little clue to my gg grandfather William Kent. Replying to both Sylvia and Doreen: Thanks for both your responses. In 41 and 51, Joseph's in Fielding St. In 61, aged 77, he's lodging in Wood St. with Mary Ogden, widow, aged 70. He's still described as a Silk Weaver, and she's a Silk Pin Winder. (Up until now I've assumed she was taking in a lodger to make ends meet, but perhaps I should look for a Ogden/Heywood marriage to see if she might have been a sister of his.) He died in July 67 back in Fielding St aged 83. His ages in all the different kinds of evidence point to 1784 or possibly 83 as year of birth. In both 51 and 61, the census states he was born in Middleton. I've been aware of the 1785 baptism to Thomas & Sarah for some time. It might be the right one. The problem is simply the lack of any further corroborating evidence. (I'm waiting for the transcript to be finished and indexed to check for possible siblings for Joseph.) Joseph himself goes on to name his own eldest son John, his second son Thomas and the rest, in order, William, Sarah, Joseph, Mary, James, Robert, Joseph. So both Thomas and Sarah are among the names of his children. He married (marriage still untraced) a woman called Alice from Thornham. The only Alice from Thornham baptised at Middleton in the right year 1786 was the daughter of John Taylor and Susannah Fallows. Susannah is not among the children's names, but then she was dead (and had died young) and so wasn't around to ensure the compliment was paid to her. A tantalizingly vague reference in Bamford's Diary could be to this man. This Joseph is likely to have been a Conservative as he was Harvey's grandfather. Bamford (born in 1788) was roughly of the same generation and they might have known each other from younger days. Bamford would be 72. This Joseph 76. Thursday 2nd 1860. Middleton. They are about forming the new Burial ground. The old wall is down, they are cutting the foundations of the new one, which it seems to me, will not be either deep enough or strong enough. The roses are all gone off Ann's grave. The radicals, or that party which calls itself such are becoming despicable in Middleton: the tories are taking fresh heart. A weaver (Joe Heywood) said that Parliamentary reform and free trade had been more hurtful than beneficial to the nation. (Stupid). 2000 silk weavers and hands generally out of work at Middleton. Bad trade arises from the dearness of the raw silk and bad trade in France as well as in England. Is the central heating installation in the Library going to schedule?
