    3. Hi Norman Sorry to butt in here but I also have a Mary Ann HEYWOOD, born about 1863 in Middleton, daughter of James HEYWOOD, coal miner and Mary Hannah née CHEETHAM. James and Mary Hannah were my gg-grandparents. Mary Ann was living with her parents on the 1871 and 1881 censuses, in 1871 at Oldham Road, Tonge and in 1881 at the Black Horse public house, 249 Oldham Road, Tonge. Mary Ann was a cotton winder in 1881, but is not with her parents in 1891 or 1901 and I assume she got married. The 1881 census records James as an unemployed coal miner but in fact he was running the pub by that time - he certainly had the licence in 1874. He died about 1887 as Mary Hannah, his widow, took over the license for the pub then. Mary Hannah is still at the pub on the 1891 census but by 1901 she is living at 254 Oldham Road, a little way up the road on the other side. No occupation is given for her at this time.
