    1. Middleton photos help required
    2. Janet C
    3. Hi everyone This is a long shot - but I'm sure you'll agree, it's always worth asking! I have put a couple of my old family photos on a website. If any of you can spare a minute to take a look at them and perhaps offer any suggestions as to how I might identify the places, I would be very grateful. I have lots more to add, but thought I'd start with these before getting too bogged down! The website is: http://sharejansphotos.blogspot.com/ Double clicking on the photos makes them larger. I'm fairly new to using the Blog site, so haven't yet explored its intricacies, but if any of you would also like to set one up, it's fairly easy to do so. I found the link on the Google screen - if you click the word 'More...' above the search box, you'll see a few more options appear. One of these is 'Blogger' and another is 'Picasa' an excellent photo organiser. Thanks for any help you can give Janet Curran researching CURRAN, BENTLEY, SIMPSON, CLEGG, BATCHELOR in the Middleton area. _________________________________________________________________ It's fast, it's easy and it's free. 3. Hi Doreen I don't know about the indexes but I will ask my friends if they know one or other of them is pretty well in Touchstones two or three times a week so they do get to know most of what they have, otherwise I will ask myself when I am next down there. I am a bit tied up with my family at the moment my daughter is not very well and she has two little ones 4 & 6 and is on her own so I am living between two houses cleaning etc at hers and giving mine a lick and a promise, but it means that she can keep going to work. I have seen those card indexes at Middleton they really are good, I had a relative (Fred Pickup) and he lived in Alkrington, Heywood and Rochdale plus a few other places during his lifetime. As it happens he was the man that invented Tizer and I went in the library one day looking to see what I could find on him and the lady was amazed that they didn't have anything but by the time I left there we had found his Obituary in the card Index and found all sorts of things on the Internet, they really are so helpful. 3. Hi Ivy, I suppose they will eventually put Rochdales online. Do you know whether any of their newspapers are already indexed? I haven`t been up there for a long time. They are trying the Middleton one out to see what the response is, but I think after a few changes in the format, it will be widely used and much appreciated. Middleton have had this very good card index for years and it is kept up to date from the present newspapers. One of the staff started to computerise it a couple of yrs ago, but its still ongoing. There is a gap for the late 1940s and early 50s though. Doreen. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
