Hi List, My gg-grandfather, William C. BOARDMAN, was born in Lancashire, England, in about 1802. He permanently left the county probably in 1826; however another source indicates later departure, in 1835. Presumably not long before departure, he married a bride of about the same age named Mary, whose maiden surname I do not know. Unfortunately, I also have no information on the part of Lancashire from which this couple came. I would greatly appreciate it if persons with access to Lancashire marriage records would assist me in finding information about the likely couple(s) of this marriage. Thank you very much! Hi Everyone, Are there any maps online for Middleton around the 40's/50's. I'm particularly interested in the Parkfield area. Mum has just moved house and is now back to her roots and a little walk in the area left her confused as new developments and suchlike has made it a bit difficult for her to get her bearings. Some of the streets are still there, but have been chopped and changed. I thought a map may be helpful. Also, how can I find out which battalion/regiment my g.grandad served with during the first World War. He was a volunteer with the Lancashire Fusiliers for the King's shilling!! I have contacted Wellington Barracks at Bury and tried their website, but they cannot help as I don't have enough info for a search. He was invalided out through injury in 1917, and was fromParkfield, Middleton. Any help and input, much appreciated. Thank you. Cheers Margaret.

Interesting: I still can't think it can be anything but Ald. Jere(miah) Barstow. Do you think 'd. of' or 'widow of' might have gone missing somewhere along the line? Hello Ted, Beatties Farm wasn`t very far away from Langley Hall. There were a lot of farms in that area, and I think Beatties Farm was nearby Partingtons Farm and Two Studs. I have an undated map here, which shows a Batty Farm in the same area. I wonder whether this could be the same one? If you email Middleton Library - they could tell you whether they have a history of the farm, or whether they have any photos. middleton.library@rochdale.gov.uk Doreen in Middleton. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Hi Tracey and Tony, Thanks for sending on what you discovered at the library. It looks like what i thought is correct, g.g.grandmother, Betty VERITY died in 1875, so that would possibly tie in with the housing development re the Danes Mill land, and she dying there. Thanks for keeping my inquiry in mind when you were at the library, it was very good of you. Hi Norman We were at the library yesterday and read an article about the purchase of land by the Middleton and Tonge Cotton mill company, who owned Dane mills, to build houses for the mill workers. This land was adjacent to the mills. The article was in the middleton Albion 1862. We dont know if this area had a name though. G'day everyone. I've got a problem. I have a copy of Ducatus Leodiensis, which has a few family trees I'm interested in. I need some help with the abbreviations. For example, one person married Ald. Jere. Barstow of Leeds. ob s.p. 20 Aug 1742. Does anyone know what s.p. stands for? In some locations obt is before a date, so I presume ob and obt are obituary, so I can use this as a death date. Does anyone know what Ald. Jere. would be short for? I know most name abbreviatios, but these are new to me. I also have a Mr Robt Jackson, Rector of Tatham, Com, Lane. Does anyone know what Com. Lane. stands for? Thanks Terry Foxcroft Australia
Terry, A possibility for ob. s.p. might be OB = obit. = Died. S.P. = Sine Prole = Without offspring Ian Saunders Suffolk UK ----- Original Message ----- From: "Terry and Tracey" <middleton@foxcrofts.com> To: <ENG-LAN-MIDDLETON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, June 25, 2005 7:00 AM Subject: Re: [ENG-LAN-MIDDLETON-L] Belgium Lancashire Fusilier > G'day everyone. > > I've got a problem. Hi Janet Have been up to Dane house this evening. The picture of the lady in the door way is at the front of the house, now pretty well inaccessable. We jumped the gun a bit with the football picture. It looks to have been taken outside a pub. If the picture was taken in this area, the Hare and Hounds at the bottom of William street looks a good choice.
