Hi Gavin I have a maverick Martha Battersby who was adopted into the WOODWARD/NEWTON households in the Bedford area of Leigh. My father reckoned her family from around Henrietta Street though the 1871 census describes her as being born in Atherton. Have not been able to find her birth. According to the 1871 census she was born in 1863. Have you by any chance come across this lady. Cheers Gill Hamilton in Southport
