    1. [(ENG-LEIGH)] Bradshawgate Leigh 1930's
    2. Hi everyone Wondered if anyone had information on the large tailors shop at the junction of Bradshawgate and King St Leigh. When approx was it built, and was it once a Burtons shop? I understood that my uncle Jesse BRAMMER was manager there during the mid 1930's. There was also talk of a second hand jewellers which he ran (possibly across the rd) His wife was called Ethel and they lived at 9 Manor Grove Bedford at the time. Would any info be available at Leigh library? Thanks for any help. Chris

    3. Dear Chris Montague Burton's tailors shop opened on Friday 14th January 1938, I always bought my suits there the manager left in the early 60's and the standard of tailoring seemed to go down hill and the shop closed they closed the Burtons factory witch was near Leigh shortly after and I think they started to import clothing from overseas made by cheap labour, some years later a firm named John Colliers opened a tailors shop across the road in Bradshawgate that was then taken over by Burton's some years later and is still there today. I went to the library yesterday and found a local newspaper article about the opening, I scanned it but it was not very good I tried to send it as an attachment but it bounced they didd not give a reason other than your post box might be full so what I will do is I will take my camera to the library and photograph the news cutting I will then doctor it up on my photographic program and try to send it again it may take a couple of weeks but I will see that you get it one way or another. Cheers Tom. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Chris4Nuttall@aol.com> To: <ENG-LAN-LEIGH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, June 20, 2003 11:42 AM Subject: [(ENG-LEIGH)] Bradshawgate Leigh 1930's > Hi everyone > > Wondered if anyone had information on the large tailors shop at the junction > of Bradshawgate and King St Leigh.
