Hi Tom Thanks for the info. I went to Leigh last week and found my mothers name on the electoral roll at 2 Bradshawgate (over) in 1931. This was obviously before Burtons was built as there is a foundation stone I spotted on King St side of the building dated 1937. It was opened by Raymond Montague Burton. This means that my uncle Jesse Brammer lived over the shop until it became Burtons. The family story says he was a gold/jeweller type of shop owner and the confusion was that it was the same site as Burtons. I now need any info on a jeweller from the 1928-1931 era. based at 2 Bradshawgate. I could try the library and search the papers when I next have a spare day. Thanks again for your kind efforts. Chris
