    3. Sorry Dorothea - - I don't have the right MORT connection in my information. But the MORT surname does lead me to post the following information. I have a MORT name which ties to a number of families that emigrated from the Leigh area to the United States, specifically, the Yorkville, Racine County, Wisconsin. Many came during the 1840s from the Leigh area to Wisconsin. Alice MORT (born 1793) married George HURST (born 17 August 1792)on 20 November 1814 in the Church of England, Parish Church of Wigan. There was a family that emigrated about the same time to Yorkville - - the Jonathan MORT family. There is a website titled, The Mort Family in England and America at: http://www.lafuente.net/mort/ I believe the Alice MORT was probably connected to this family - - but I am not certain how. George and Alice MORT Hurst's daughter, Alice HURST (b. 20 August 1839, ) married Joshua COLLIER (b. 6 October 1832), at Racine County, Wisconsin, 35 December 1861. Joshua COLLIER was the son of William COLLIER and Margaret RIDYARD Collier both born Lancashire and emigrated to Yorkville, Racine, Wisconsin. In 1848, when sixteen years old, he came to this country in company with three cousins of his own age, Joseph Collier, Joshua Boydell, and William Birchall. He located in Racine county, first in Racine, where he worked at his trade as a ship carpenter, and later near Sylvania, where he purchased land. Subsequently his parents came to this country, and settled near him. My great-grandfather was Joseph Ratliff COLLIER (born 1832- - a son of Peter COLLIER and Betty RATLIFF Collier. We have a prayer book that he was awarded when he was 15 years old for Bible memorization at Wigan. In 1907 Joseph COLLIER returned to Lancashire to visit family - - I do not believe he had ever returned from the time he emigrated. Using census data - - I think he returned to see his brother, Samuel COLLIER, as he named his first child Samuel. None of his siblings emigrated. The names of COLLIER, and BOYDELL as well as BIRCHALL, MORT, AND HURST have been identified with Lowton also. Any one interested in the American side - - or information that may help us to connect with the Lancashire side - - I would very much like to make connections with you.
