My research of the Hampson line ( I believe its a common name in the Leigh area) is stalled around the 1881 Census with Thomas Hampson (b 1869 d 1906) married to Elizabeth Jackson (b 1870 d 1948). I have pretty complete tracks for these two (my grandparents). Before them is providing difficulties. Thomas was son of James Hampson whom I cannot trace and Jane Richardson (b 1840). What is surprising is that one of Thomas' siblings was named Leboth ( an unusual name to me) and she appears in the 1881 census together with Mary Ann, John, Edward James and Margaret, none of whom can I find with any certainty. Is anyone else tracking this line? I would appreciate any help or assistance, please Brian Hampson, Montreal, Canada

Hi Brian, I cannot help you with the Hampson line but I have my Grandmother Ellen Fairhurst, born 1876 in Wigan Lancashire; died 2 March 1914 in Rotherham South Yorkshire; married (1) Thomas Jackson. of Leigh, Thomas died around 1900. They had a son named William Jackson who lived in Leigh until the mid 1970's. Is Thomas a relation of your Grandmother Elizabeth Jackson?
