Hello Neighbours, It has been a while since I posted to this List, but I am always keeping an eye on it to see what's going on across the "border" from Westhoughton or "Howfen" as most people know it! My latest project is taking the names from the War Memorial here in Howfen, some 400 approx. First and Second World Wars, and from the names written thereon, I intend to give more information about those Soldiers..."THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE" is written on this Memorial and I want to give a 'file' to our local Library, with one page dedicated to each Soldier, I hope to do this before Nov 11 2004. My sources are from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, which you will agree is an incredible site. The Memorial Inscriptions from the graves in the Local Churchyards Westhoughton Library. Most of all I would like to find  photographs of all these brave soldiers, at this moment I have only 2 photographs and about 20 photocopies from Newspaper Cuttings, this is not a lot 22 from 400, but I hope that some kind people will come forward and let me have a COPY of a photograph of their relatives who are named on this Memorial. Some of us Howfeners must have emigrated to Atherton or Leigh or Tyldesley, I mean you know we are very adventurous!!
