Dave Please could you check if you have any entries for Roddy. (I am told a Francis Roddy from Roscommon because a Butcher in Leigh). Thanks for your generous offer Pat Sankey Rochdale
Hello Pat Spoken to Alan Roddy tonight but doesn't know a lot about the family history. He seems to think his Grandad, whose name he can't remember as he died before Alan was born, came over around 1926 and worked in the mines . He was born in Roscommon and Francis his son (known as Frank), was a butcher in Leigh (this was Alans father) Alan remembers his grandma had a chip shop on Kirkhall Lane in Leigh. He went to visit Ireland a couple of years back and visited his grandfathers birthplace. He said if you have any more information he would be pleased to hear it Pamela ----- Original Message ----- From: "The Sankey Family" <ANTSANK@jasper58.freeserve.co.uk> To: <ENG-LAN-LEIGH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, December 05, 2003 7:49 AM Subject: [(ENG-LEIGH)] Leigh 1918 Directory > Dave > > Please could you check if you have any entries for Roddy. Hi Pamela Thanks for the info. My husband says that one of the tales from his mother's childhood involved the three sisters Kitty, Anne and Margaret (his Mum) going visiting the chipy and having to do their party pieces for their relations. Kitty's effort involved dancing on the counter which collapsed under her weight. They never allowed her to forget it. I am putting some notes together on the Roddy family for you to show Alan. Could you possible let me have your snail mail address please?
