Hi Valerie, I was shocked when you asked if Robert Mcmaster was related to Sam Mcmaster of Plank Lane. After checking my notes, it seems that Sam is Roberts younger brother. I do show the same info on the 1881 census. On the 1891 census the Mcmasters are living on 210 Plank lane and the Eccleston family is at 246 Plank lane, in Abram. My grandmother was Fannie Mcmaster, possibly spelt Fanny. She was born in Leigh on 28 March 1902, mother was Edith Eccleston Mcmaster, father Robert Mcmaster. They Came to the US in 1904 or 1905 a couple years after Fannie was born. I was told that Robert Mcmaster played for the Leigh rugby team in around 1890. Ben Mcmaster is the younger brother of Robert and Sam, and is still living in the Leigh area. Maybe your mother knows him. If you have any info on how i can get marrage and birth records for the Leigh area, or if any one has info on the 1890ish rugby team, would love to get a copy of his team photo. Thank you so much for all your help. I forwarded a copy of your reply to my father, Leo McGoff, who is Fannie Mcmasters son. He was thrilled. Again many thanks from: Mark, Janet and my dad, Leo Mcgoff
