My gr grandfather, John Mort Hurst, was a penny farthing cyclist - presumably belonged to a local club in Leigh in the late 1800s. He won a race on the Isle of Wight for which he was presented with a clock in the shape of a ship (all in gilt and wood, made in France - very impressive thing apparently). I am trying to find out more about the clubs and this particular race. If anyone has any leads, I would be grateful. Linda
