Sonia I have an Alice FAIRCLOUGH 1882-1910 in my tree. Although not the same Alice that you list, the Alice I refer to also had a father JOHN, 1854-1923, married to Margaret UNSWORTH. Parents of John FAIRCLOUGH, b.1854, are William FAIRCLOUGH and Lucy ECKERSLEY. Father of William FAIRCLOUGH is another John. Known siblings of Alice, b.1882, are Lucy Mary FAIRCLOUGH, 1880-1951, and Harold FAIRCLOUGH, b.1887 Chances are that there is a connection between the two families. Wondering if I have any cousins on this list to say hello to and who might be able to help me with my digging! Am researching: SAMUEL MORRIS b 1885 in Leigh and ALICE FAIRCLOUGH b 1886 in Pennington. SAMUEL'S parent's were: Joseph Morris and Mary Rawle both from Lancashire. ALICE"S parents were: John William Fairclough and mother was Jane Ball don't know where they were from yet. ALICE also had a sister named Betty (Fairclough) Johnson. Well, if you recognize any of the names, even if you don't! stop in for a cup of tea and a chat! Sonia Hamilton, Ontario Canada.

Hi Pauline - Not too sure: I wasn't altogether overjoyed at the Lowton Sparrow. I've never lived there - but visited on three occasions - my Father was from there - came to NZ 1911 as a teenager - never got dust in his eyes - and as I am scratching around and the info I want seems always behind me, perhaps I do qualify for the title! Peter, my mistake - I'm that used to typing .com for a URL that I did it for LQQK. The real address is www.LQQK.co.uk Sorry everyone. Lobby is very similar to an Irish Stew. Originally it was created from left over vegetables and cooked with a meat (usually lamb) to create a broth/stew. Very tasty. Wiganers take meat and potatoes out of the broth, wrap them in pastry and call it a pie. (hehe) I guess we need to stop bashing Wiganers - that's not what we created the list for even if it is a very valid reason. DAVE

Hi Dennis Since my original reply I have rechecked on a more recent printing of the Landtanger map. The name of the farm at grid reference SJ 681 983 has now been corrected to Netherbarrow but the one at SJ 675 982 which I know from the 1845 map to be Hawkhurst is still unnamed. Dear all, One of my wider family ancestors died at "Hawkhurst, Bedford" in 1842. Does anyone have any information on Hawkhurst.... was it a farm or (perhaps) a hospital (the person died of consumption), or just a house. I don't seem to be able to find it on any censuses. Thanks, Dennis

That's a great response, David, and in double quick time, too. We have a great group of people in our membership. For those interested in the Bolton and Newton-le-Willows areas I believe that there will soon be new lists for those areas as I have been petitioned for directions in how to set up those lists. Watch this space as we will be advertising their opening. DAVE
